Return of Rhodes (*Signs 1 yr. deal)

Post#1 » by PR07 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 5:45 am

The Oakland Raiders notified halfback Dominic Rhodes that he is being released.

The move wasn't much of a surprise. The Raiders invested the fourth pick in the first round of the NFL draft on halfback Darren McFadden. With McFadden, Michael Bush, Justin Fargas and LaMont Jordan under contract, someone had to be the odd man out, and it turned out to be Rhodes.

The salary cap was behind Rhodes' release. When the Raiders traded cornerback Fabian Washington to Baltimore Sunday, they took a $1.093,750 cap hit, putting them over the salary cap.

I know we just drafted Mike Hart, but if the price is right, I wouldn't mind bringing Rhodes back. He's only 29 and knows the system.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Colts are expected to reach an agreement with Dominic Rhodes on a contract.

GM Bill Polian downplayed the possibility last week, but it looks like posturing now. Don't assume Rhodes is a lock to backup Joseph Addai, but he looks like the favorite over sixth-round pick Mike Hart, with Kenton Keith the likely odd man out. Whoever wins the backup job is going to be worth a late-round fantasy pick.

I think this is excellent news. Rhodes knows the system and has been productive as a Colt. Peyton always raved about him. We need another back to take some of the carries from Addai to keep him fresh, and I don't feel that comfortable coming back next season with Kenton "Stonehands" Keith and a rookie in Mike Hart (no matter what his credentials have been).

Mike Hart can step in when Rhodes hits the dreaded 31-32 age mark, and Kenton Keith is extremely expendable. I think Rhodes was our best kickoff returner in the last few years. With Rushing's development and if Rhodes does sign, we'd do a lot better on returns.

Colts signed RB Dominic Rhodes to a one-year, $605,000 contract.
Their next move could be cutting Kenton Keith, who during his recent arrest bragged to police that he was an Indianapolis Colt. At this price Rhodes is no lock to be on the Week 1 roster, but since he knows the offense, has a slight advantage over Mike Hart. Joseph Addai's backup situation is muddled. May. 7 - 2:50 pm et

The price was right in this instance. It will be interesting to see if Keith can hold onto a roster spot. I definitely still want to see what Mike Hart has though.

Is Rosy Colvin next?

Even though Addai was the one that caught 10 passes and, while rushing for less, netted more total yards?

I could see why someone would vote for Rush. His rushes may not have been as long as Addai's when it's all said and done, but he had some huge runs down the stretch that really changed the game.
