week 1: vikings at lions 9/8

Post#1 » by hermes » Mon Sep 2, 2013 10:24 pm

vikings (0-0) at lions (0-0)

noon start

first game of the year!

excited for football to be back, hopefully we have a good year although there are plenty of reasons to worry

need a good start and beating a division opponent on the road is about as good as it gets

go vikings

no kevin williams for game 1 but looks to be the only injury that will prevent someone from playing

Sharif should get an early chance to prove himself. I think he'll be able to handle himself.

gonna be a long season. Let the history records show that this team willingly and purposefully went into the season with Christian Ponder as the starter.

The defense is the most worrisome part. We couldn't stop the run and we couldn't stop the pass. I didn't like the play calling either, more Patterson is needed.

More Rudolph too.

QB, defense, and play calling cost us this one. We couldn't stop a nosebleed.

its nice to know that simpson is alive - he had a great game

what did you guys think about the blocking? detroit's front 7 just had a great game or something more worrisome? adrian had virtually no running room

i can hear them calling for ponder's head already; don't know why, the team is committed to him

it was weird that they didn't use patterson very much

defense was worrisome, detroit ran up and down the field

Ponder didn't play well, but at least he stood in the pocket and made some plays downfield.

they did go to jennings a fair amount but he wasn't able to reel them all in

i hope they get it to patterson more, at the end of the game he just seemed like he was anxious to make something happen/be involved

he returned a couple of ill-advised kickoffs (just to make something happen) and it looked like he was supposed to come off the field after his one catch but he motioned that he was staying

When Percy was returning kicks, I wanted him to bring it out of the endzone even if he was 9 yards deep just because he was such a threat. Patterson hasn't put himself in the same category yet, but I think that's part of the reason he was drafted.

Agreed. Not like they're going to wrap him up inside the 10, worst case scenario is you start at the 15 instead of the 20. The potential reward greatly outweighs the risk.

I'm going to start reporting all posts that don't have an exasperated, fed-up tone with Ponder. Other than possibly Blaine Gabbert, he's the worst starting QB in the NFL. I knew this was going to happen last year when he had that good Green Bay game - now he's going to waste another year of Adrian Peterson b/c the Vikings FO couldn't accept what every non Vikings affiliated person already sees.

I don't disagree about Ponder, but he's a Viking so I cheer for him. I'm not sure there are better options at this point of the season. Even if Cassel is an upgrade, the Vikings will have to play better than they did this week for it matter.

i know ponder's not great and we're not going anywhere far with him but the team seems to be set with him, so i guess i just don't see the point of clamoring for a change that the team won't even consider

Return to Minnesota Vikings
