Re: vikings 2016 season game thread
offense wasn't especially inspiring but hill did what he needed to do, which is great. but teams are just going to load up the box to stop adrian - so we'll need to figure out how to run the ball effectively
defense was good, especially in the second with making opportunities
blair started out real bad but seemed to kick his way out of it. if the offense continues to struggle i think he'll get a lot of opportunities
patterson with the jump start kick return, he needs to bring it out every time he can

but the most important part is that we won, there are times its going to be ugly and we'll have to do some unusual things to win but that is what good teams do
go vikings
go vikings

Hill was better than I thought he'd be. He was able to move in the pocket and make throws.
I thought we were going to lose until the first interception. The scary thing is about a bad season is we don't even have a first round pick. Hopefully we will be able to figure some thing out offensively and keep winning.

Re: vikings 2016 season game thread
i think they'll figure some things out on how to free adrian up a little bit, but the passing game was more or less what was expected (and very similar to what we got from teddy last year). i will say that hill was very comfortable in the pocket (even when it was collapsing), so that was nice to see. pass protection was good
maybe that's where they have a game where they go out and throw it around the field 45 times (probably when bradford gets in)

Hill was able to covert a couple 3rd and longs, which is what surprised. I thought anything over 3rd and 10 would be a challenge but he was able to convert a few times with solid throws.

Not going but it sounds like Bradford is starting, so that will interesting. I'm not sure what to expect, hopefully the defense can slow them down and create a few turnovers and the offense can do just enough.

During preseason they said that the vikings would do a light show things on touchdowns. They didn't do that tonight, what happened to that?

Bradford looked great but I'm worried about AP. I'm not sure how many more injuries we can take and keep winning games, and we need to win games since we don't have a first round pick.

Re: vikings 2016 season game thread
good: bradford, diggs, defense, locke (outside of the block he was regularly knocking them inside the 20 with no returns)
bad: offensive line, penalties (we were the least penalized team last year and there was a ton this game), running game
penalties are a correctable issue and with the history of the team last year and zimmer being a no nonsense guy those will likely get fixed pretty quick.
more concerning is the offensive line, they can't run block for nothing and where was the good pass protection from the first week? was the titans pass rush just bad? we're especially going to need to shore that up in order to keep bradford upright and healthy. and with ap out (for however long) we might end up being a little more pass oriented

Re: vikings 2016 season game thread
it stinks losing adrian but after 2014, and being respectable without him, i think we should be ok (provided the offensive line can get in order)
how concerned should we be about quality receiving depth, when teams start doubling diggs who is going to be able to consistently get open and make some catches? thielen and johnson haven't shown up a lot, wright hasn't even been active the first two games, patterson isn't going to be seeing the field a lot, and i don't know where treadwell is

I heard Adrian tore his meniscus, but I didn't hear a timeline. Zimmer wouldn't even say if he would miss this week.

Thielen has 8 catches this year which is pretty solid for a 3rd receiver. Charles Johnson has really lacked production for a starter, ideally that's where Treadwell would step up. I don't know what's going on with him though.

Re: vikings 2016 season game thread
sounds like adrian has a choice in how he wants to get his injury treated. the long way, which will take at least 4 weeks, but has better long term health results. or the shorter way which can have him back in 2-3 weeks but greater risk for knee problems down the road

I would'nt risk it. I'd sit Adrian for 4 weeks, he can come back healthy mid season and hopefully the O-line will be able to protect him better by then.

If it's just the difference between 2 and 4 weeks, he should sit, although I've heard some longer time periods for the surgery. Like the potential to miss the full season. That would be a much tougher decision.

If Peterson does need surgery, he'll have to choose between two options. He could have his meniscus trimmed or removed, and possibly be back in a matter of weeks; that course of action could have him back on the field on Oct. 23 in Philadelphia, following the Vikings' bye week. Given the potential of the Vikings' 2016 season -- and Peterson's limited window to maximize his production and future earnings -- the quicker fix might be an attractive option
But that procedure wouldn't present as complete a recovery as a meniscus repair, which would put Peterson in better position to prolong his career for several more seasons. If Peterson chooses to have such an operation, he'd likely be looking at a recovery of three or four months, meaning he'd miss most of the regular season, along with his chance to put up solid numbers in his age-31 season
