lots of media day player interviews are online today. at some point they'll probably be on the team website. I posted Buddy's because of the general interest, but I'm not going to try and post them all here.

Him saying he chose number 7 because his Mom has 7 children was interesting. Don't think I've heard anything similar from other players. Of course, many of the higher numbers in use would be,.....well..........uh......oh my!

Anyway this link is about Buddy wanting to stay and will come off the bench to help the total team effort.

I'm hopeful that Buddy's 'not feeling desired', and the Pacers 'open to finding trades' are both just negotiating positions. =]

6moy of the year has always been a ppg contest. Since Buddy can shoot the lights out, I imagine he might have a shot at it. He had more ppg than brogdon last year.

Watching this team so far this year i believe this starting unit would be better with Buddy starting. Math doesn't provide the same spacing and isn't exactly elite at anything. It may take a couple seasons of Math development to be ready to be a go to player.

I think it's more important to have Buddy close than start.

I'm increasingly willing to trade Buddy although I have no idea what the perfect return would be. Our wins over Philly and Cleveland may have given us false optimism. I can see the time coming when we go more into development mode and get Nwora and Walker into the rotation,

It seems Kuzma has little value, yet would be a strong scoring option on the Pacers, and is a few years younger.
Why should we not pick him up for package around Buddy and a second or two?
I would not start him with Obi, but between Brown and Walker that looks like a respectable line up.
Jarace just needs to grasp that he's the worst shooter on the floor, and should think defend, rebound, and pass... first second and third.
Mathurin gets all the play and defensive help he wants between Nembhard and Nesmith. Our size problem would look a lot better.
I'd have to think about this unless we have a real good feeling about grabbing a strong two way forward by next summer.
Does anyone think Nwora can be a cheaper Kuzma? Reliably?

I don't. I think Nwora's best role is probably as a versatile, bench swing-forward. Nwora has a lot of skills. Depending on match ups, he can have big nights. He can impact the game on the second unit by attacking a need on any specific night (shooting, rebounding, defense, etc.) But, I just don't see him as a guy who should be ask to be an all-around, 2 way player, either in a starting lineup or as a 6th man. Of course, I would really love to be massively wrong about that. Right now, I see him as your 3rd forward at either position.

if Buddy were gone, would Nwora move up to the 2nd forward at one position or the other?

Without Buddy there would be more minutes for Nembhard and Nesmith at the wing while opening up some minutes for Toppin, Walker and Smith at the 4. Its a long season but, Orlando exposed us yesterday. Today we look a lot more like a team still in the development stage.

agreed and I think that makes Buddy more of a luxury. but he has been in a slump which makes us more willing to give up on him and other teams less willing to think he's what they need.

I say his "problems" began when he was moved out of his role in the starting line-up. He really was clicking with those players, and it isn't working as well with the guys he now shares the floor with. Not his fault, I'd say. Carlisle may have done better if he had not messed with a good thing.

it was certainly true last year that both Haliburton and Hield were much better when they were on the floor together. each had much worse stats when the other was sitting.

Yet if you start Ty and Buddy how do you justify a third poor defender in your starting lineup with Ben or Obi?
With those two it has to be Brown and Nesmith, maybe Walker eventually. We're terrible defensively as it is.

You don't. You just bring them both off the bench.
