Talk about people making an online community as real and significant as it can get. It's always great to come to a place to share and discuss something that only certain people are so passionate and committed to. I've never interacted with Don, but it seems that he's exactly the type of person that can make something like an internet message board a real place. He will be missed. I'm sure that he knows the time he spent here had a positive affect on others beyond being a basketball fan. My condolences.

Sad, sad news. My sincere condolences to the Pacer Board and his family.

Jerm, i also know you from way back, and what you posted is pure class. Just an amazing story, and probably sums up how many of you felt.

I did not know Pacerfan personally, but I always enjoyed reading his posts and insight. A truly great poster/person that will be missed.

Heart goes out to his friends and family.

RIP.

Wow... Jermaniac's post actually made me cry... If Pacerfan was that nice to someone over a message board I can only imagine how great of a person he was in real life...

Wow, sad news. Prayers go out to his family. Through all the trade proposals and questions about O'Neal, he always answered them fairly, and you could tell he was very real.

Seems like a great guy, and Jermaniac's post was very good. What a good person to do something like that. He seemed like a great person.

I'm another one of those who didn't really know Pacerfan, but from reading the comments he sounded like a really cool guy. I wish I had the chance to get to know him.

Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Pacerfan.

I think it's clear what an impact he made on the board and RealGM in general. I've always enjoyed coming here and I'm sure a big part of the strong community vibe I like here has to do with Don's foundation.

My condolences for such a great loss.

RIP Pacerfan

I posted this on our board , and I would like to share this with your board as well . My Condolence goes out to your family .
Psalm 116
1 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.

2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came upon me;
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.

4 Then I called on the name of the LORD :
"O LORD, save me!"

5 The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.

6 The LORD protects the simplehearted;
when I was in great need, he saved me.

7 Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.

8 For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,

9 that I may walk before the LORD
in the land of the living.

10 I believed; therefore I said,
"I am greatly afflicted."

11 And in my dismay I said,
"All men are liars."

12 How can I repay the LORD
for all his goodness to me?

13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the LORD.

14 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all his people.

15 Precious in the sight of the LORD
is the death of his saints.

16 O LORD, truly I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your maidservant ;
you have freed me from my chains.

17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you
and call on the name of the LORD.

18 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all his people,

19 in the courts of the house of the LORD

I never posted on the Pacer board, but I have read for sometime now, not because of my interest in the Pacers, but because of pacerfan. After reading Jermaniac's story, and everyone else's comments, I regret not posting while he was with us so I could get to know him. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but he was not just a poster or a moderator. It is clear that he was also, a close friend, a father figure, and most importantly, a family man. My condolences go out to everyone who was affected, by his passing.

Wow...I really do wish I could say something all pretty like everyone else is, but I've never really known what to say in situations like this. I didn't know him in person, either, but I always looked forward to his posts. I didn't even realize that he hadn't been posting because I haven't been posting much lately, either, but it's really sad to hear that we won't ever see him posting again. It's incredible how sad I feel about a man I never met, but I guess that just goes to show you what an incredible guy he was that he could touch so many people's lives in an internet forum.

Still can't believe it. I'm sitting here kicking myself that I didn't post more over the last year. I know PF understood why my posting dropped off on here, but now I deeply regret not being able to speak to him more recently.

Truely saddened!!! :cry:
I can not say anything more then what others (count, PP, Jermanic, FreeRon,...) have said. I write this teary-eyed, remembering someone who I never met, yet I still feel a great sense of loss.
When I came to this board in the off-season after the brawl season, the board was not a happy place, but I liked anyway. pacerfan was one of the first who stood out & caught my admiration. He was always calm, respectful, informative, and fair. He was truely a father-figure among the posters, & everyone listened & respected him. He was alfa dog w/o ever trying to be. He was classic in the present, and he was appreciated by more then he will ever know.
I once posted/ created a "poster-by-position" analogy, linking personalities of the posters to positions on the court. pacerfan was our Point Guard, for all the reasons I have mentioned here, and for all the reasons everyone else has elegantly stated. I remember he was one of the first to respond to that post, & was honored at my choice of him as out PG. I will always think of him when I post here, & will always remember him as our floor general. He was HOF in my book, & will be missed!
Footprints in the Sand my friend, & God Speed... :pray:

I remember pacerfan post on our board a while back during the JO trade rumors time. He was pretty patient and wrote a lot informative things about the Pacers franchise and seemed like a very genuinely kind and passionate fan who loves the game.

A great loss indeed. RIP pacerfan.
