Eric Chavez back on DL

Post#1 » by FNQ » Sat Aug 4, 2007 4:18 pm

15 day DL for back spasms.

Another disappointing season for Chavy. I really think its time to move on from Chavy at 3B - we're paying nearly 8 mil a season (I believe) to a guy who hasn't had an .800 OPS in 3 years.

I realize we don't have a big 3B prospect in mind, but the savings alone would make it worth it, to me.

Maybe I'm just bitter because I'm used to pennant races at this time...

^I know man, I'm used to watching the A's win. This is not fun. Our so called franchise player is not helping us either.

I just hope Eric Chavez takes all the time he needs to get healthy. I remember when Eric Chavez hit .282/34 HR/ 112 RBI. Are we ever going to see that Eric Chavez again? Heck, are we ever going to see the Eric Chavez of a couple of years ago before the injuries started to occur? In '04, he hit 29 HR and had 77 RBI, and he looked great that year before he went on the DL.

We all know Billy Beane is not going to deal Eric Chavez. He just loves the guy.

Let's hope for a healthy Eric Chavez in 2008, even though it looks like he is on the downside of his career as he is 30 yrs. old.

the ' so called franchise' player has been playing hurt, for a few years now. he's one of the few a's who attempts to paly hurt.

Playing hurt or not, this small market team needs it's star to produce. I agree it's time to move on, so I hope Billy is prepared to seek a trade for Eric during the off-season.

Its true, but its only a good thing to play hurt when you can still produce, and Chavez has played that card for too long. Either take the DL stint or hit.

I miss Tejada every time I see Chavy... Tejada has the fire. Ah well.

the same tejada who was claimed on waivers? the same tejada who will be 45 next month?

" picking" chavez over tejada was the right move. crosby was there to fill in for tejada, highly touted, although his swing was a mess. i'm pretty sure chavez did a favor and sucked it up and played through his nagging injuries. his defense is 2nd to none, its even more apparenty with scooter out there.

I like Eric Chavez. I think he is a very good player when healthy. But if he is not healthy and he is still playing, then it just hurts the team, IMO. Eric Chavez should fix whatever that is bothering him. Now, I do understand that he is having back spasms, let's just hope it is not that serious b/c Eric Chavez is a good player when he is healthy.

I was thinking along the lines of...

The same Tejada that's played in 162 games for 7 straight years.
The same Tejada that led the MLB in RBIs one year removed from the A's
The same Tejada that's hit .300 5 out of the past 6 years...

Age be damned, we chose the wrong player.

Tejada has actually had some of the best range for a SS in the majors for several years.... he isn't as efficient as Chavez is, but he does get a lot more balls hit his way. :dontknow: But Tejada is far from brutal, still today has amazing range.

UZR favors field % to range.... Miguel's been in the top 5 of adjusted range factors since his MVP season. The comparisons between Crosby and Tejada's range/fielding mean nothing, as Crosby could have been moved to 3B. We kept Chavy thinking he would improved like Giambi and Miggy did... we were wrong.
