Who's the odd man out?
I know it is a bit early on this topic, but I really wanted the first real post on this board.
With Mike Timlin due back for the start of the homestand, who does everybody think will be the guy sent to the minors. My money has to be on Javier Lopez. Lopez has some options left to be sent down and he is the third lefty out of the pen. I just don't see the need for 3, even if the Sox are going to use Romero for both righties and lefties.

J.C. Romero is so bad. I'd vote to just release him right now.
I thought that I read Lopez had one more option. I could be wrong tho.
I'm not really sure what to think about Romero. I suppose he used to be an alright pitcher, but last year he was terrible.

Romero isn't too bad if he is used right. The guy is strictly a lefty specialist, and a pretty good one. Last year the Angels used him vs. right-handed batters (23 innings vs. righties, 25 1/3 vs. lefties) and he got absolutely lit up to the tune of a .382 BAA and 2.35 WHIP. He struggles with control but he is pretty unhittable vs. lefties (.202 BAA, 1.22 WHIP last year... .229 BAA, 1.24 WHIP for career). I think he should be pretty solid if he is only used vs. the tough lefties, I'm just not sure I trust Francoma to use him properly.
As for the original question; I think it has to be Javier Lopez.
edit: I just looked up his '05 splits and they were extremely similar. Dominant (.198 BAA, 1.06 WHIP) vs. lefties but horrendous against right-handed batters (.268 BAA, 2.06 WHIP). For some reason, his managers have let him pitch against righties and that has made his numbers look awful. Keep him away from the right-handed hitters and you have yourself a quality LOOGY.

They're going to try to sneak him through waivers. He has great stuff, but he's not going to pitch at the major league level right now. If he can clear waivers, great. If not, he'll go to another team.
Release Mike Timlin please.

They designated him for assigment. If he clears, he goes to Pawtucker or Portland. If not, then he goes to another team.
My guess is Oakland wants him so they'll put a claim in and he'll no longer be Boston property.

- 4/10/07 Activated RHP Mike Timlin from the 15-day disabled list, optioned LHP Javier Lopez to Triple-A Pawtucket and designated RHP J.D. Durbin for assignment.
Claimed RHP J.D. Durbin off waivers from the Diamondbacks.
