NICKY!!! Huge. D had their struggles, but they really stepped up in big spots. Nick gotta be in the lead for DPOY at this point. Gonna cost a buck or two to re-sign.

This game was all about Tua's terrible play. That was easily the biggest factor in deciding this game.

That 3rd down before the half where Purdy hit the dart to Kittle to extend the drive and eventual TD was easily the best offensive swing play.

3 sacks for Bosa and a game sealing forced fumble

Haha, Warner gets a pick for good measure.

That was cool, but its well past time to empty the bench

Haha. Oh man. Four turnovers for Tua. Rough. Gotta assume he'll bounce back, but this is the sort of performance that can really derail a season for a young QB.

Pretty remarkable to win that one with our third QB, a rookie who was the last pick in the draft. Huge props to Purdy. It wasn't always...purdy. Hahahaha. But he got it done.

Are the Cards a playoff contender as we discuss the Niners win streak? Certainly the Rams are not.

Now have to hold our breath for the medical eval on Jimmy G.

Great win.

Purdue made some throws into tight windows but in some of those cases, he needn’t have tried, there might have been WRs more open.

Still, with minimal reps they did a great job with him. Kyle probably changed the playcalling.

I didn’t see this team getting far with Jimmy TBH. Philly and Dallas are tough and going to challenge the 49ers secondary. Vikings probably as well.

Also going to be interesting to see how they defend against the Seahawks in the second game as Smith has found his footing since the first game.

Don’t see them stopping Chiefs or Bills.

Don’t feel bad about the autocorrect spelling of Purdue instead of Purdy. It probably happened to four times to me today.

Out for season.

I imagine Jimmy comes back for a 1 year deal next year, depending on how Brock does rest of the way

Damn, Jimmy gone for the year. Blown assignment that led to his sack and him trying to extend the play did him in.

Brutal. It's pretty hard to imagine going the distance with Purdy, but he played pretty well today. We'll see what he has in him, I guess.

I think if Purdy shows that he is at least adequate, he and Lance could be the QB tandem for next year. Incredibly cheap for QB's that would allow the team to spend money on the other holes they need to cover (OL, CB, extend Bosa, sign CMC, etc.).

Our secondary has always depended on a great pass rush to make up for our lack of coverage talent. If the QB has no time to throw, our coverage looks good. If they have time, we get exposed.

We need a center field type FS to pair with Hufanga next year at SS

A couple of times, Purdy threw behind receivers on posts/slants.

On one of the replays, he was looking left and then came back right and threw behind a WR, forget who.

But that indicates he was trying to hold one of the safeties by looking left and coming back right.

That's pretty advanced considering how few reps he must have been getting. Some throws were really off, again maybe that gets better with more reps.

But unless he's the next Curt Warner and he's going to put up 30 points a game, 49ers Achilles Heel is probably the secondary, if the pass rush can't get home.

Fortunate that Tua missed some throws in the first half, with WRs getting pretty open on intermediate routes behind the LBs. He was getting some time.

On the plus side, he has similarities to Jimmy in terms of favoring the mid-range throws and avoiding deep balls, so a fair amount of the passing plays could still be available to Shanahan. And while he is far from an elite runner, he is faster than Jimmy (4.84 40 compared to 4.97 for Jimmy...and that was 8 years ago! Jimmy is a lot slower than that now) and is good at throwing on the move while rolling out of the pocket. Offensively it again all comes down to our O-line. If they can get the running game going, Purdy can put on his game manager hat much like Jimmy did in 2019. But the line will have to show massive improvement if we are going to get to that 40 rushes/game threshold that can control the ball and not require our QB to make big plays.
