Holy ****.

I hate giving him up. But there was no way to pay him that much money and Armstead+ a Kittle extension.

Love DeForest Buckner, but he's not 20+M AAV for me. Colts have a lot of dough to toss and they needed an inside impact guy.

Think the 49ers move Armstead inside.

Ford, Jones, Armstead, Bosa are the starters.

If this is what Buckner was looking for from the 49ers, the 49ers made the right move. No doubt in my mind.

All comes down to $$$. We couldn't afford to keep him, Kittle, and Armstead. Now we got the 13th pick in the draft plus we can trade one of the two first round picks to get more capital or get a playmaker

I absolutely HATE to see Buckner go but I agree, we couldn’t afford that contract. Now it’s time for Solomon Thomas to earn his contract.

Do they draft Jeudy or Lamb now?

Unfortunately I don't think he will

Why didn't they just tag and trade Armstead? What the heck. Buckner was a stud, Armstead was a beneficiary of playing next to Buckner, Bosa, and Ford. Give me a break.

No dead money from Buckner trade, 49ers clear $12.2M off the books. Now some other FA on the team may be in play to come back, or they can look on the open market.

Also whats the deal with Mckinnon and Goodwin? Those guys need to be gone asap. Would love to bring Ward back, less concerned about Sanders.

Buckner is worth too much money. $21 million per season is too rich for our blood with our current cap situation. Especially considering that Buckner plays almost 100% on the interior

Not exactly - this does not seem to be a matter of preferring AA over Buckner; we didn't have a choice since we can't afford to pay him $21M/year. Apparently sources said Buckner approached this negotiation wanting Aaron Donald-type money. We signed AA for 5 years/$85M or roughly $17M/year. Plus from a cap standpoint, we save $12.3M by trading Buckner. This makes Buckner the second highest paid DT in the game behind only Donald. Would love to have kept Buckner, but I'd also love to own a Lamborghini - some things you want in life are just not feasible.

Good guess! Or you can even enter Henry Ruggs name on there as a 3rd option.

DeAndre Hopkins is now playing in our division so it’s not the best time to me phucking around with our defense. I think it’s either Auburn’s Derrick Brown or South Carolina’s Javon Kinlaw.

Order of preference this is who I want:

1.) Chase Young - we would have to give both 1st + more
2.) Jeffrey Okudah - our first 2 picks to acquire him
3.) Jerry Jeudy
4.) Ceedee Lamb
5.) Derrick Brown
6.) Henry Ruggs
7.) Javon Kinlaw

The question probably amounts more or less to whether you'd rather have Armstead, a mid-first round pick this year (13), and a mid-tier player or Buckner and maybe a second round pick. Honestly, that's a tough call for me. I have some reservations about Armstead proving he's worth this deal. He's good, but he's not Buckner, and $4 million a year (I'm sure once the details come out that will look like a bit of a larger gap, more guaranteed for Buckner, etc.) isn't such a difference given the difference in caliber of player.

Ultimately, the draft pick compensation probably made the difference. I'm sure the FO spoke to teams about Armstead's value before pulling the trigger on this. And if it just wasn't there for Armstead, then I guess this makes sense. But they'll have to hit on that pick, and Armstead will have to elevate his game. This is basically the contract that Trey Flowers got after years of effective play for NE.

Before the Buckner trade was announced, I was posting in the offseason thread that the FO wasn't showing that they can make the tough decisions. They have done that now, we'll just have to see if it works out.

The good news here is that we can now use relatively high picks (anticipated starters) at WR and DB. I'd like to see us trade back with one or both of the first rounders. We need to start building quality depth to replace our expensive players who we won't be able to retain.

My initial wants at 13 are Juedy, Lamb, Ruggs. Or CJ Henderson.

Or a bunch of teams ahead of us make stupid reaches and send Okuduh to us.

This is completely terrible..... cannot fathom if it became Buckner or Armstead why Arik?

THis is bullsh*t.... they have no idea how bad our DL is going to regress, Buckner took on sh*t that gave Armstead n Co the clearance to dominate....

Wtf were they thinking!
