Moody missed earlier in the game and Shanahan thought he would kneel with one TO and 40 seconds on 2nd.

True, but the offense wasn't exactly lighting it on fire themselves either.

He missed like a 54 yarder. Browns had been dominating the line all game so running another play was risky to lose yards or the ball. Kicker should be able to make a 40 yard field goal

And? Run it for a few more yards and make it an easier kick

You're rising a fumble doing that.

And that's why they lost, they trusted a rookie unclutch kicker over running a play for more yards and one timeout

Yea Shanahan whiffed at the end. After Jajuan got the 1st i thought we'd run 1-2 more pass plays to get 5-10 more yards. Oh well

Is he doing the kickoffs and have kicked it out of bounds a few times?

From a young kicker you would hope he has leg strength and would hit deep into the end zone a few times.

A third round pick ...

Shanahan could've helped matters by maybe running the ball and getting him a few more yards but the kicker you invested a 3rd round pick into has to make a 41-yard game-winning FG and those should basically be automatic.

I know a 41-yarder isn't a chipshot and I could be a little more lenient if he was an UDFA or even a late round pick but if this team felt like he was worth a 3rd rounder he better be pretty close to Justin Tucker in terms of ability to kick.

Eh, tip the hat to CLE and move on to next week.

That's not why they lost. The offense was trash all game long. Never should have come down to a FG. Plenty of other plays that they could have made.

Yes, it is why they lost. Moody missed a 41 yd FG to win. That's why they lost

Can't put this game on 1 play. The team was a 10 point favorite going up against a backup QB. Never should have been that close.

Pretty much where I'm at.

Not to say that there isn't any concerns coming out of this game. Because there are, namely the health of 2 of the top 3 offensive weapons.

Still, considering Cleveland dominated and thoroughly outplayed the 9ers in all 3 phases of the game and SF was victimized by 2 absolutely brutal game altering decisions by the refs (if either of which doesn't happen, 9ers likely win;) And the 49ers still had a chance at a walkoff game winning FG, I think its a little early to panic and have knee jerk type reactions.

Its not overly uncommon for west coast teams to have a letdown game on a cross country trip with an early kickoff time.

There is a realistic probability that this will be the worst game the 9ers play all season.

Lick your wounds, and move on with eyes of winning the next 2 going into the bye week.

Browns had terrible plays they could look back at too. They lost because of a missed FG.

This is a classic 49ers sloppy loss. We have at least one every year
I have a feeling we will be without CMC and Deebo next week in Minny on MNF so that will be a tough game as well even with the Vikings record.
Let's see how this team bounces back after a tough loss when they got dominated for most of it

Yup. If that phantom PI call hadn't been made against Gipson, it never would have come down to Moody's missed kick at all.

The team was sloppy all game. We didn't deserve to win. Browns outplayed us.

Agree. I just said that if the phantom PI call wasn't made, which replays clearly show it should not have been a penalty, then it wouldn't have come down to Moody's miss at the end. I still believe that to be true.
