Trading Up For CJ...

What are your thoughts, beyond YEAH! or NO WAY!!

Seriously, it would take something like the 11th, our second this year and next, and a 4th. Maybe more.

Do you do it? Do you add more? How much more?

And why do you do it, beyond the attraction of a big name?

If you don't do it, why not?

It depends on how much we give up, but I sure as hell would do it. IMO the best prospect in the draft. The guy will be something special and an immediate impact. He's athletic, tall, and leap out of the building and only 21 years old. I'll post some more reasons why later but got to go now.

This is a very difficult decision due to the fact that WR that are drafted high do not really pan out. WR I would say have the highest risk out of all of the positions except for QB. Most of the top WR in the NFL were not even picked in the first round which include the two best in Chad Johnson and Steve Smith. Many people say that CJ is a sure thing but there is no such thing. I say we stay put and do trade up but we trade back into the 1st round like we did last year when we drafted Manny Lawson. And The WR I would really like if we do trade back into the second round is a toss up between Robert Meachem or Dwayne Bowe.

That's definitely in the ballpark with the draft value chart. It seems to me to be too much. We just need too much help in other areas. I would be in favor of moving up from 42 to get one of the second tier WR, while still getting a potential stud at 11. Something like 42 and 76 for 27 should do the trick. You still have four fourths to move up from 97 in the third, if necessary.

i would give up a package of that sort, (11, 2nd round, 4th round and a 2nd next year), but would the lions or browns accept it. Other things to consised would be the amount of money we would have to fork over to a 2nd or 3rd overall pick. Another thing is we need to make sure we can get him, meaning do a draft day deal, dont trade it now and have the raiders screw us over just so they can say they did.

I would love to see the niners make a move to get CJ, but I don't see Nolan mortgaging the future to do it. Nolan has tried (until this offseason) to build the team through the draft and it would take a lot to get the raiders to give up #1 (which when all is said and done is where I think CJ will be taken). In my estimation it would require:

2007 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th
2008 1st, 2nd

Thats A LOT to give up for one guy, regardless of how good he is.

Sure I would like for it to happen but its pretty much got a 0.1% chance of happening. I think this is an organization that likes to build through the draft. I could see them trading into the late first round if they like someone that much.

yes, but the Giants weren't picking 11th, they were picking 2nd or third.

...still a huge difference from 4th to 11th. NFL teams have a formula for determining "fair value" for draft picks, and I remember reading somewhere earlier (sorry cant remember the link) that, in order to move up to get CJ, it would basically cost the niners their entire 07 draft plus a future #1. Thats just too steep a price.

I would give up a lot to get Johnson. I dont even think we could give enough without us looking stupid, giving up something that is key to out future. Picks okay...players with last names of Smith Gore or Davis. I would be a very happy fan if we could get Johnson, do i think it will happen? no. But i defititly would want it to happen just like probably any other niners fan.

I'm not a big fan of trading up for CJ. As good as he may be, we still have more than a couple of big needs. They'd have to give up too much to move up to #1
