49ers release LeGree and re-sign Matthews to practice squad
The 49ers have signed safety Mark LeGree to the practice squad and released wide receiver John Matthews, the team announced Tuesday.on NOV.15 .
LeGree, 22, was a teammate of 49ers rookie guard Daniel Kilgore at Appalachian State, where he was a three-time All-American.
LeGree continues his trip around the NFC West; he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round this year and promptly released after training camp. Then he signed with the Cardinals on Sept. 21 and was released Oct. 5
But two weeks later was released by the 49ers and re-signed wide receiver to John Matthews to the eight-player unit.
Matthews collected 46 catches, 1,049 yards and 13 touchdowns when played for coach Jim Harbaugh at the University of San Diego from 2005-06. He is one of four members of the practice squad who played for Harbaugh in college. He joins center Chase Beeler, tackle Derek Hall and tight end Konrad Reuland, who played for Harbaugh at Stanford.
San Francisco 49ers Wide receiver Braylon Edwards injuried his knee and shoulder, so that he has been limited in practice . the movement is necessary. Which indicated he might benefit from taking time off to fully heal in advance of the playoffs.
Matthews, obviously, gives the Niners another receiver to run routes in practice. Beyond Edwards, San Francisco’s available receivers include Michael Crabtree, Ted Ginn, Kyle Williams, Brett Swain and practice squadder Joe Hastings.
