Atlanta @ Florida 04/25/07 Game 21 7:05 pm Est

Braves (13-7)

vs.

Marlins (9-11)

Featuring

Image
Tim Hudson
Hudson has gotten off to arguably the best start of any pitcher in baseball this season. Plus, the Braves are 7-0 when he starts against the Marlins, and he has fashioned a 1.57 ERA in those games. Conversely, he has been a more hittable 2-1, 3.60 in his last five road starts spanning into last season.

vs.

Image
Scott Olsen
Olsen is a career 1-3 against the Braves with an ugly 11.02 ERA in five appearances. One of those starts came this season, when Olsen lasted just 2 2/3 innings and gave up five runs. Olsen has pitched poorly in his last two starts, but feels he has corrected a flaw in his delivery. Last year, he tied for second among National League rookies in victories with 12.

Rockies thrashing the Mets right now 11-3. Hopefully the Rockies waste all of their runs against them.

Kelly Johnson is just in an unreal zone right now. 3 walks last night, lead off HR tonight. Definition of "seeing the ball well."

Then Chipper with the encore.

That may be the worst loss of the year (for the entire year). Unless the starter is flirting with a no-no, bring in the bullpen. Nearly every pitcher in every game is going to say he can go "one more," but we had a closer that was perfect on the year and you don't bring him in until bases are loaded with no outs? Bring him in at the start of the inning or not at all.

Didn't see the ending but judging from what high 5 said it was bad judgement from Bobby. Tough loss, really tough loss.

:o I was watching this game and turned it off b/c I thought you guys had it in the bag. Can't believe you lossed......sweet 8) Hudson had unreal stuff but you definitely can't let a pitcher dictate how long he's going to stay in especially the was Wickman is going.

I won't put the blame on Cox. Hudson had a great 8th inning and was still throwing gas and his stuff was still really sharp. I'm sure Bobby asked Hudson if he was good to pitch the 9th before he went up to bat on the top of the 9th and Timmy probably told him he was alright. He only threw 106 pitches at that point which is very good for 8 innings. Tim's stuff just came out flat in the 9th and the Marlins took advantage, by the time Wicky came in he was already in too tough of a situation.

Understood, you usually try to save your bullpen for the stretch run and don't want to use them early in the year if not necessary. Than maybe he should have just let him win or lose the game rather than bring in Wick in that situation. IMO.
