Yes, that was part of the equation. Philly wanted to dump Tucker's $11M next year [player option, sure to be opted into] even more than we wanted to dump Mook's [$17M, but expiring].

Almost the whole roster is coming off the books and the Sixers will have $50M-60M to use on free agents once the dust clears. Cap holds:

Tobias Harris PF - $45,850,000 Bird
Marcus Morris Sr. SF - $25,674,419 Bird
Nicolas Batum SF - $17,566,227 Bird
Robert Covington PF - $17,538,462 Bird
De'Anthony Melton SG - $15,200,000 Bird
Tyrese Maxey PG $6,259,588 $13,031,760 Restricted Bird
Furkan Korkmaz SG - $10,203,703 Bird
Mike Scott PF - $9,510,165 Early Bird
Danuel House Jr. SF - $5,603,325 Early Bird
Mohamed Bamba C - $2,221,685 Non-Bird
Patrick Beverley PG - $2,221,685 Non-Bird
Paul Millsap PF - $2,221,685 Non-Bird
Kyle O'Quinn C - $2,221,685 Non-Bird
Kelly Oubre Jr. SF - $2,221,685 Non-Bird
Ricky Council IV G $1,981,953 $1,981,953 Two-Way
Javonte Smart G $1,981,953 $1,981,953 Two-Way

Apparently Bones and PJ went with him, so let's call it a team building exercise.

The tweet emoticon seems a bit much? When I first saw it, I was expecting a strip club vid. He's at a bar getting a drink, and playing along for the ladies shooting the selfie vid. Pretty tame stuff.

That's really interesting. Obviously I wasn't there during the last 2 days of negotiation apparently involving even the owners, but that Tucker-Batum swap is a significant trade 'asset' that we gave up. All along we heard about the Sixers wanting 2 1sts which they ended up getting with help from OKC, plus a pick swap and about $11M in cap reduction next year. If Harden plays well it's still fine for us, but it raises the bar a bit in terms of trade value and thus expected return.

It's a shame we didn't have a guard with a $10M expiring to trade instead, I don't think Philly cared about Batum the player so much as his expiring deal. We all know Batum is nearing the end of his fine NBA career, but for roster balance it would have been great to keep him even then (and evidently made him and his wife a LOT happier as well.) But we had no other contracts to trade.

Morey wanted a player who could help THIS year too--after all, if he gets fired, all this brilliance will do him no good. Besides Mann, Batum was all we had. [Powell has another 2 years to run after this year and at $20M per, is not a great value.]

I'm sure the Clippers hated giving up Batum, who was still the best player in the deal, and it's douchey to trade players who signed as FAs--especially Batum, a good soldier who REALLY wanted LA in the first place for wife and family reasons. He probably could have got more $$ elsewhere. [Neither did Ballmerdom cover themselves in glory by Batum finding out about the trade from his wife hearing it in the media.]

Then letting us keep RoCo would have been essentially just as good given our dearth of bigs. But again, we had no other tradable contracts.

Yes, iirc I posted something about Harden waiving his $5M trade kicker to make the deal go through capwise.
