Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
With a few more weeks until the beginning of the new league year, I wanted to start a thread to consolidate the free agency discussion. Here's a link to the unofficial salary figures and some questions to get the thread going:
http://www.thehogs.net/washington-redskins/salary.php
(The 2013 cap hit is on the far right. I'm assuming that everyone with a value of $0 is a free agent.)
- What are the team's biggest needs?
- Which of our own free agents might be allowed to walk?
- Who around the league are you interested in signing?

Charles Woodson cut by GB. Not sure what his price tag is at this point in his career, but he's an interesting play at safety IMO.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
They re-signed Kory Lich to a 5 year deal, worth about $3.5 mil per year. Some of the stuff I read online suggests that it might be a 2 or 3 year deal only.
Chris Baker was re-signed, as well as Nick Sundberg, Rob Jackson, Darrell Young, and Logan Paulsen. Brandon Banks was the only one who was restricted, to not sign, I believe.
Skins have also released DeAngelo Hall.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
^ Thanks for the update, Raf. According to the Post, add Chris Baker to your list above and. Also, it looks like Banks wasn't even tendered an offer to make him restricted (which isn't surprising).
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... anks-walk/
The Redskins have tendered backup nose tackle Chris Baker the restricted free-agent right-of-first-refusal qualifying offer, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The team has decided not to attempt to retain fellow restricted free agent receiver Brandon Banks.

Latest on the Skins cap situation:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... alary-cap/
The article says they need to get to around $4M below the cap to sign all of their picks.
Despite releasing DeAngelo Hall and purging $8 million from their books, and reworking the deals of Santana Moss, Adam Carriker and Brandon Meriweather, the Washington Redskins remain financially constricted.
As of Wednesday morning, Washington stood roughly $600,000 beneath the NFL’s salary cap because of the money the Redskins have committed to salaries, and the $18 million they must account for from the NFL’s penalty for how contracts were structured in the uncapped 2010 season.

LOTS of stud DBs available to fill IMO our biggest need.
At corner you got: Talib, DRC, Sean Smith, Brent Grimes, Nnamdi, Mike Jenkins, Tracy Porter, Cason, Pacman Jones..
At safety: Kenny Phillips, Ed Reed, Delmas, Adrian Wilson, Pollard
I would love to see them go after Kenny Phillips and Sean Smith.

A signing to bolster the O-Line:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... trueblood/
Update: 11:32 a.m. – The Redskins announced that they have officially signed Trueblood. Financial terms of the deal weren’t immediately available.
<snip>
It’ll be interesting to see if the Redskins see Bruce Allen’s 2006 second-round pick as a starter, or as a backup. (Trueblood also played under current Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris in Tampa when Morris was head coach there from 2009 to 2011.) Washington earlier this week signed former Cleveland Browns right tackle Tony Pashos, who like Trueblood is coming off an injury.
The only other right tackle on the roster is Tom Compton, who spent the bulk of his rookie season out of South Dakota on Washington’s practice squad.

My guess is that financial terms will turn out to be the league minimum.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
I'm looking over these contracts, or what has been reported rather, and it seems like the general consensus is that some of these deals essentially might be 1 year contracts. Especially with the corners. Skins could have anywhere between $25 million to $30 million in cap space next offseason. Guessing we're just going to have to bite the bullet this year and roll with what we have.
It would also mean that Haz might get a free pass because he's had absolute **** to work with.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
Finally starting to add some secondary help:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/90753 ... ej-biggers
How much help, of course, remains to be seen. Even if he turns out to be solid, they still need to use most (if not all) of their picks on DBs.
The Washington Redskins have filled at least one hole in their depleted secondary by agreeing to terms with free agent cornerback E.J. Biggers.
Biggers agreed to the deal Wednesday. He has played three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and started 12 games last year, taking Aqib Talib's spot after Talib was suspended and traded to the New England Patriots.
Biggers was selected in the seventh-round of 2009 draft and played under current Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris when Morris was coach in Tampa Bay.

Antoine Winfield coming in for a visit Wednesday. Hopefully a deal gets done. Ideal world is they sign him, bring back Hall on the cheap and draft a guy in the 3rd round.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
Re-signed Fred Davis to a 1 year deal.
Antoine Winfield was being wined and dined by the Redskins, I really hope we get this guy. He rated out as the #1 corner last year, IIRC. Get him or Hall back, and we can be a little more flexible with our draft. Skins pretty much have to knock it out of the park, they need at least a starter or two out of those picks.

Wow, wasn't expecting that. Even with the injury, I would have thought he could get a multi-year deal with incentives. Maybe he's counting on blowing up this year and the Skins severely overpaying him in 2014.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
Re-signed D. Hall to a 1year deal. I read that does not take us out of the running for Winfield, but the popular talk among Skins fans is that Wilson might be the one who gets cut to make room for Winfield. That's a solid trio of corners, but I'd still draft one in the later rounds of the draft. Richard Crawford and Chase Minnifield are two guys to keep an eye on as well.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
Wow, they played the D.Hall scenario perfectly. And I agree that they should/will still go after Winfield. Theoretically, if they did that and still kept Wilson, could they move somebody to safety?

Not sure. I just saw on Twitter that they had $1.2 million in cap space so they must have cut or re-structured someone. I know Merriweather has a spot locked in, assuming he returns to full health from the ACL injury. They're gonna have to draft a corner and a safety anyway, we'll see what happens.

Oh no! Could the Rex era be over in DC?!
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000 ... n-redskins
[Pat] White headed to Washington D.C. on Tuesday to visit with the Redskins, a source told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. USA Today later reported that White will sign a contract with the Redskins on Wednesday after meeting with team officials Tuesday night.
CBSSports.com earlier reported it's "very likely" White will sign with the Redskins because of the scheme fit.
It's a move that makes some sense. The team only has one healthy quarterback on the roster: Kirk Cousins. The Redskins probably need to sign at least two quarterbacks this offseason because of Robert Griffin III's injury. Rex Grossman also is expected to be brought back, but he remains unsigned.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency Thread
Charles Woodson is still out there and apparently not drawing much interest. Depending on what happens in the draft, giving him a look on a cheap 1-year deal might work.
