Tavon Austin will be in the market for a new team after five years with the Rams organization.

The Rams will either trade or release the former No. 8 overall draft pick, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, via a source informed of the situation.

Austin's contract calls for a $5 million roster bonus this month, a prohibitive price tag for a gadget player and part-time punt returner.

Slender and injury-prone - he's a lot like a slightly poor-man's DJax. He will stretch the field and make the accrobatic catches but will have trouble hanging on against contact. It wasn't a good year to get high-end WR's, and the Skins paid a premium. But if he stays healthy, he'll be a good get.

Well, what they really NEED is a monster run-stuffer and a great young CB, imo. Skins D against short yardage runs was abysmal. They almost have to draft either Da'Ron Payne or Vita Vea unless there's a CB at 13 they can't resist. To me, Dunbar can't be starting at CB. I'd rather start Moreau.

Yep, with the new pass-happy NFL they definitely have to make corner a priority now. I'd actually put left guard at a close second. Without top-flight skill players, they really need to be rock solid up front for the offense to function IMO.

New York Jets CEO Christopher Johnson said Sunday that the team rescinded its offer to free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

"It just didn't seem to be in keeping with our long-term plan," Johnson told reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando.

The Jets' interest in Suh, which surfaced on Friday, came as a surprise. That they've pulled the offer also is a surprise.

The Jets made a "pretty big offer" to the former All-Pro, Johnson said. Suh told Yahoo! Sports that it was the largest offer he had received since he was released by the Miami Dolphins. He's also drawing interest from the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints.

The Washington Redskins signed linebacker Pernell McPhee on Monday, the team announced.

Terms were not disclosed.

The signing comes a day after the Redskins confirmed they would not be re-signing linebacker Junior Galette. The team also lost pass-rusher Trent Murphy in free agency to the Buffalo Bills.

So much for Washington not trading Su'a Cravens.

Cravens, the Washington safety who was drafted in the second round in 2016 and didn’t play at all in 2017, has been traded to Denver.

The deal features Denver giving up the 109th overall pick, the 142nd overall pick, the 163rd overall pick and a conditional 2020 sixth-round pick in exchange for Cravens, the 113th overall pick and the 149th overall pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Add all those picks up and it’s roughly the equivalent of Cravens being traded for a late fourth-round pick.

But, basically, Washington is getting a fifth-round pick and change for Cravens, whom coach Jay Gruden previously said they wouldn’t trade.

The official departure of Will Compton was a reminder that the Washington Redskins remain in the market for a linebacker despite the recent signing of Pernell McPhee.

The defense has lost Compton and Trent Murphy, and Junior Galette was told the team was no longer interested in his services. The starting lineup of Ryan Kerrigan, Mason Foster, Zach Brown and Preston Smith remains intact with McPhee rotating in. Ryan Anderson figures to be more in the mix as well. But that’s not enough for a 16-game NFL season.

The prevailing thought has been that the Redskins will address the defensive line with the No. 13 pick in the draft. Washington defensive tackle Vita Vea has been the selection in some mock drafts. A defensive playmaker such as Florida State safety Derwin James has also been a popular guess, but linebacker is very much in play depending on who’s available.

Virginia Tech’s Tremaine Edmunds is a rare blend of speed and size at 6-foot-5, 253 pounds. His 4.54 40-yard dash was the fifth fastest among linebackers at the NFL combine. He led Virginia Tech with 109 tackles, 14.0 for loss and added 5.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries and three fumbles forced. Edmunds is widely regarded as the best linebacker in the draft and could still be available at No. 13.

James Harrison, the outside linebacker who ended last season with the Patriots, is planning to keep playing and looking to sign with a team that needs a player like him after the draft, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

For Harrison, the top priority is getting on the field. He grew frustrated in Pittsburgh last year when he rarely played, and was happy to get released by the Steelers and signed by the Patriots, who made him a starter in the Super Bowl

The Dallas Cowboys released wide receiver Dez Bryant on Friday, a source told ESPN's Todd Archer.

Bryant was informed of his release after arriving at The Star, the team's headquarters in Frisco, Texas. A source said Bryant, who met with owner and general manager Jerry Jones, was not offered a pay cut.

Another source added that Bryant will not be designated a post-June 1 cut.

After an injury-filled season, the Redskins studied themselves to evaluate how they could avoid a similar situation in the future.

Part of the conclusion? Earlier practice times.

When the Redskins begin training camp in July, the team will practice in the morning and will conduct their walkthrough in the afternoon. Coach Jay Gruden in the past did the opposite.

“I want to give them a full day to recover,” Gruden said. “I kind of have been doing a little research here and I think we practice in the morning, we are off the field around noon and they get a nice lunch. … So, I think to give that full time for recovery, so they can drink a lot of fluids and take care of their bodies is important.”
