Redskins, Landry Agree to Deal

First-round draft pick LaRon Landry agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins on a five-year contract early this morning, and the rookie is flying to Washington to sign today. Landry, the sixth-overall pick out of LSU, is unlikely to be able to practice with the team this afternoon, but will be on the field by Tuesday at the latest.

Landry's deal is worth a maximum of $41.5 million, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, with $17.5 million guaranteed. Landry is expected to compete for a starting job right away. His has missed five practices over the first four days of training camp, but the coaches expect him to catch up quickly.

Big question - how will Sean Taylor take this? He was just as high of a pick and he got a lot less than what Landry's getting. We can't afford to have Taylor distracted.

Good point. But I have to tell you, I see this as a pivotal peroid in this franchise. If (and it's a big if) Reaper keeps his head, this forms the best secondary tandem in the league.

Now if we only get a real head coach and not just the reasonable facsimile of Coach Joe (Hello, Bill Cowher!)

Oh boy...it's only a matter of time before we hear "Washington Redskins safety Laron Landry has been suspended four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy."

IIRC, Taylor's deal can go up to $40 million depending on how well he plays, reachable bonuses, etc. It was right around the time Taylor got in trouble for a couple of offseason incidents, can't remember for sure.
