What Next?

Blake in....

Fisher will probably come back for somewhere b/t 3.5 and 4.

That puts it at 4 guards (Kobe, Fish, Blake, Vuja)
3 SFs (Ron, Luke, Ebanks- I am certain he'll make the team)
3 Bigs (Bynum, Pau, Odom)

Payroll right now, updated for Blake - and including Ebanks at minimum, is $86 mil, not incl Fisher.

1.78 left of MLE.

So what next?

A. Get a 4th big, or
B. Get a wing backup upgrade?

Thoughts?

Bring back Mbanga for 4th big, his salary is minimum anyways and for christ's sake sign a good back up SG if not Shannon.

well, if we evaluate the threats in the western conference, we have PLENTY to deal with them on the interior. our frontline can play and stick it to any frontcourt in the western conference. the guardplay is another thing, but we'll just have to manage with the speed of the likes of williams, nash, westbrook etc... blake is an excellent shooter, so we're good there.

in the eastern conference, the thread in my opinion is orlando with dwight howard. and of course the big question mark . . . which is where these big named free agents will land. the crystal ball hasnt spoken on that one yet, since they havent signed, but as far as the western conference is concerned, we are bigger and stronger than anyone else out there.

in my opinion, we need a slasher type individual. right now, if we looked at our team, we have 1 guy who can drive to the basket, create his own shot, and dish . . . that is of course kobe. after that, we have alot of "spot-up" guys. blake and vujacic are spot up and drain it guys, same with fish. if we can get our hands on a slashing type player, that in my opinion would be where to go.

Fisher is getting interest from othe teams. He might say thanks and good bye. Ebanks will have to do something out of this world to make the team. 2nd round picks are just that. That is why they fell to the second round. No one wanted to draft them in the first round. Hope he does well in the Summer league and training camp. If I was him. I look over seas for a pay check.

Ebanks (who i am sure will make the team) could pretty much be our slasher. I am not sure that phil will give him minutes, but i would definitely give him some minutes over walton. Sure walton has the basketball IQ, but he is just not the player he was even 2 years ago, which was good enough for us.

from the various reports i've heard (radio i think), a lot of people expect mbenga to get a pay raise over the vet. min. i wouldn't be surprised, dj is a decent player.

Ebanks will make the team FOR SURE.

I have a feeling Caracter will (if he earns it) take Powell's spot.

I'd love to bring everyone else back. Shannon, Fish, & Mbenga.

I'm assuming we'll carry 14 guys.

how much was he making in ORL? he opted out to get more money.. dont think hes gettin much more here.. but i do think that matt barnes or tmac are two of the better options that are out there and fit the bill for our need for a kobe-ron back up.. both players have pros and cons, but i dont think i would mind either of them coming off the bench..

Here's my next steps plan, so far:

Sign Fisher for 3.5m.
Sign Raja Bell with the leftover MLE (1.8)
Sign Kurt Thomas with his vet min (1.3)
if DJ Straw plays well in the SL- trade Vujacic/cash to Minny for Ryan Hollins (2.33)
bring in Straw and Ebanks from the SL

Fisher/Blake/(Kobe)
Kobe/Raja/Strawberry
Ron/Luke/Ebanks
Pau/Odom/KT
Bynum/(Pau)/Hollins
payroll=90

Would love to see Walton go in some kind of sign and trade. Maybe to the Clippers in a sign and trade for Blakes contract and we can still have the MML to use if they want. DJ I love and want him back. He just needs time and he can be a good interior post player. Ebanks. Hope he does well. Not sure what he has to offer besides alot of wing action.

As dc ash said, Mbenga will probably get more than his vet min (1.07)... he'll get somebody's BAE probably at minimum for 2 mil.. After two yrs of vet min, he has to want to get more $ I'd think.

doubt Clips would do a Blake s/t, but they did give up a 1st in the Bledsoe deal so maybe LA could convince them by tossing in '11 1st.
