Poll: Kyrie — an FA target or an absolute no-no.

Post#1 » by stan francisco » Mon May 22, 2023 6:20 pm

Once the season is over (we could theoretically win four straight)…

Is Kyrie’s off-court antics just that and you don’t care about anti-Semitic tendencies or odd world views like that the world is flat, on our team? Or would you rather not have or youngs anywhere near him, and instead focus on team chemistry and get a less skilled but perhaps harder playing PG?

Hard no. He’s a brilliant offensive player but his off-court antics eventually leads to some kind of problem. I don’t even think Lebron can get him to not **** up at some point.

He's better and maybe cheaper than DLo at this point... I really don't care what he does off the court, if we're stuck with LeBron and AD for more seasons, it's swing for the fences time... And Kyrie is better on both sides of the ball than DLo... Most nights WAY better...

But if we get Kyrie, we need to have a new coach who would have no problem pissing off any of our 3 primadonnas if it meant winning... That includes playing the season like it means something...

Really though... None of these guys have won **** in years... The days of catering to them should be over...

Off-court issues are often overblown. We’ve had so many ‘problem guys’ on our team over the past several years and I can remember any causing any serious issues. Kyrie is considerably better than Dlo and Westbrook.

My concern is just him not being reliable and wanting to play full seasons once he gets paid.

Unless he's taking less, the answer is HELL NO.

LeBron and AD = $87.3M
Vanderbilt = $4.7M
Rui cap hold = $18.8M
Austin cap hold = $2.2

Total: $113M
Salary Cap: $134

That's 21M-25M available. If Kyrie is willing to take $21M and he slides onto those guys then let's do it. If not: Explore every other opportunity to see what else is out there. This team doesn't need a massive addition to be Championship calibre next season.

We need an elite 3&D PG. In my mind, Kyrie’s track record says it all chemistry wise, and he’s actually NOT what we need the most. He can ruin the vibes in a heartbeat. Celtic for life, lol.

I’m all for FVV as you know. Tyus Jones would be perfect, too. I’ve been hoping for FVV for a while but Dame is second choice on my list, then Klay, then Trey.

Edit: *third, not second: 1) FVV 2) Jones 3) Dame 4) Klay 5) Trey

If Kyrie shows desire to play for the Lakers, then of course you go after him. But not at the expense of Rui and Reaves.

Fred Van Vleet would be my #1 FA target. Cheaper, younger, better defender, just as good a shooter, and no headaches.
Secondly, Id try to go for Dame. He's the only player Id consider parting ways with Reaves for.
Third Kyrie, if he's willing to take a paycut
and 4th Trae Young. Don't forget- Trae young shot 32% from 3 this season, and led the league in turnovers since he's entered the NBA. I don't want that.

I’m usually on the side of rolling the dice and taking the talent but I don’t know if that’s worth it with kyrie.

Unless he dying to come here, I think you let him go. I’d have to see that he wants us more than we want him and I’m not sure that’s possible.

There is no way for us to obtain Kyrie without losing at least one of Reaves or Rui. That alone makes it inadvisable.

Tyus Jones is my top choice PG for this team but I don’t see how.

S&T D Lo, Beasley, S&T Schroeder, #47?

Reaves has a tiny cap hold. And we'll match anything he gets.
Rui shouldn't solely be judged by that magical playoff run he had. He's been a career 7-8th guy. While ideally we'll keep him (If the price isn't much higher than the MLE), if he's what's standing between us and getting an all-star, then sayonara Hachimura

really boggles my mind how people didnt see how much lebron struggled offensively in the denver series.

we need another shot creator period

we got the right pieces already, we have capable 3 and D players in Reeves, Schroder, Rui, Vando, Walker

we need a go to player during crunch time, you cant have your superstar/number 1 option get outplayed by the opponent team's 2nd best player...IT WILL NEVER WORK

I don't like Kyrie but I'd rather have him than DLo. After seeing how inconsistent DLo is I think I'll gamble on Kyrie. I wouldn't mind the off court issues because I believe that Kyrie would have to take less if he wants to be here. And taking less means commitment for me.

Well I dont who, but I agree I dont want Dlo. The end goal is in fact to win. This dude runs from the ball in crunch time.
We have been dialed in and focused on fighting to survive since January, and this dude has shown he ain't willing to stand with his teammates but actually run scared when the chips are down.
