Wayne Simien

I was going through Youtube after looking at a few Brandon Rush clips and I came across a familiar looking big man that played for Kansas...

Whatever happened to Wayne Simien? I remember seeing this guy in Kansas just tearing up the middle...and then he gets drafted by the Heat and disappears. I know he was traded to Minnesota but holy crap...after watching that video and seeing clips of him in Miami, I'm still trying to figure out what the hell happened in between draft night and when he suited up for the Heat. Once his rehab completes I think we should go for him.
The way I see it, signing him would be a low-risk deal, and if he does finally blossom, he would be awesome alongside Andrew Bynum. The kid was a beast in college and can still reach his potential as a Laker. I'd give this guy a chance being as he's still young and healthy (after the rehab). Draft express had this guy compared to Carlos Boozer coming out, so that has to mean something.
Here's some info on his recent injury from before the season started...

He was unwanted by the Heat, however. The team let him go via trade after the 6-foot-9, 250-pounder missed all but eight games last year because of a bout with Salmonella and most of the preseason following offseason knee surgery.

Right now, he's uncontracted, so i wouldn't mind giving him a 10 day contract...1
+1 I think...
Yea I wouldn't mind the 10 day contract depending how he is physically. How about an invitation to the Summer League or NBDL??? Do it Mitch!!!

Not sure why, but he just didn't get minutes aside from when he was injured. Considering the many times Antoine Walker stunk up the court....ugh. I do remember a nice game he had after Udonis Haslem was ejected after a BS call involving Jermaine O'Neal, where he finished with 9 points and 9 offensive rebounds. He was very potent when he got the minutes. I believe he can still be solid in this league.

Don't we have any decent (at least active, lively) bigs prospects from our D league team?

Nah...they would have had a fighting chance to make the team. Elton Brown still represents though.

One question regarding his injuries that a lot of people are talking about, how bad was it? I mean, he barely played at all for the past three years and has plenty of time to rehab from his injuries. If those injuries are still there, just how bad were they?

A few nagging injuries that healed a long time ago. He fell under the Riley curse (playing youngsters) though...

Posted: Mon Jan 4, 2010 10:51 amStrange bump, but, since someone asked, Simien has retired from basketball and become a minister.
