Bynum Inj. Update: espn - bynum WILL play thursday p.15

Post#1 » by A-Train » Fri Feb 13, 2009 1:43 am

Dont know if anyone has seen this but was posted yesterday

By Broderick Turner

A little over a week after leaving the team in New York, Lakers center Andrew Bynum appeared at practice Monday and gave Lakers Coach Phil Jackson an update on his injury.

Bynum suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee Jan. 31 against the Memphis Grizzlies and after getting an exam in New York the next day, he was told he would be out eight to 12 weeks.

Jackson said Bynum informed him that he had flexibility in the knee and he showed off a brace he was wearing.

"He said the swelling is minimum right now that he has," Jackson said. "He's walking without aid. So he feels pretty good about what he's doing. We know that this first two weeks is going to be kind of sketchy. As he starts healing, things will start changing a little bit."

yes, thats obvious. i think the point was that both injuries gave a timetable of 8 weeks, and with the signs of improvement that he didn't show last yr, he might actually be back in 8 weeks this time.

Agreed, he'll beat the 8 week assessment. That was the "chise" time table not the doctors.

Sweet, hopefully he can give the lakers about 15 mins per game in the playoffs.

I think he will give about 15-18min upon his return but in later rounds he should be back to preinjury minutes.

Just look at his demeanor. He's back there laughing and looking enthused. I think he'll be back to full force, peaking going into the finals.

Jackson said before Tuesday’s game that Bynum’s return isn’t imminent, although he was walking without a crutch and is not experiencing any pain.
