CLE/NYK - Lebron gets some help, Knicks shed salary

Post#1 » by LeQuitterNotMVP » Thu Jan 10, 2008 9:52 pm

CLE outgoing/NYK incoming: Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble, Cedric Simmons, Eric Snow, and 2009 1st round pick (lotto protected)
NYK outgoing/CLE incoming: Mardy Collins, Jamal Crawford, Jerome James, Jared Jeffries, Zach Randolph, and Quentin Richardson

Why do the Cavs do this deal?

The team they have right now is clearly not good enough to make it back to the finals. So, they upgrade their talent base by adding a solid big man in Randolph, and 2 wings who can score. They do have to back Jeffries' and James' crappy contracts, but it's worth it for this talent upgrade.

PG: Crawford/Gibson/Collins
SG: Pavlovic/Brown/Brown
SF: James/Richardson/Jeffries
PF: Gooden/Randolph/Jones
C: Ilgauskas/Varejao/James

Why do the Knicks do this deal?

It's time to blow it up, as this current group of players just isn't working out well at all. The Knicks shed a ton of salary with this deal, both now and in the long run. To add in the rebuild, they get a future 1st round pick and a post prospect in Simmons.

PG: Marbury/Robinson/Snow
SG: Hughes/Jones/Jones
SF: Balkman/Chandler/Newble
PF: Lee/Simmons/Marshall
C: Curry/Morris/Rose

1) Why would Cleveland protect that pick
2) That offense in NY would be TERRIBLE
3) Cleveland is NOT taking any contracts that run longer than LeBron and thats exactly what Randolph and Crawford are.
4) This is a terrible trade for NY cause they could get more than that if they traded Randolph-Crawford-Collins individually.

Yes!!! Finally a trade that gives the golden boy of basketball loads of help while giving up total poop. Oh and thank you so very much for helping NY shed salary. Cleveland and it's fans are the good Samaritan's of the NBA. God bless.
Those last 70 seconds, Randle in a nut shell.

Awful 2 for 1 3PT attempt when we are up 2
Doesn’t close out on Sabonis --> open 3
Takes another side step off balance 3

We got sucked into the Randle vortex where all good feelings go to die.

I'm not so sure that the Cavs want to become the Knicks of the Midwest.

They would be tanking.
3) Cleveland is NOT taking any contracts that run longer than LeBron and thats exactly what Randolph and Crawford are.Well, if we want to be contenders in the near future, we need to sacrifice that cap room.[/b[
4) This is a terrible trade for NY cause they could get more than that if they traded Randolph-Crawford-Collins individually.[b]Eh, I don't know. Collins for Simmons is in there for salary purposes and roster purposes only. But anyway, I'm not sure if they can get much more for some really bad contracts.
