Boston trade: White
Orlando trade: WCJ, Black

Why for Boston: save money and improve depth. Helps them duck the 2nd apron in future yr(s)
Why for Orlando: get the perfect PG fit with Wagner and Banchero. Have cap space to renegotiate and extend White midseason.

White
Sugge
Wagner
Banchero
?Bitadze

Holiday
Brown
Tatum
WCJ
KP

Boston isn't looking to downgrade.

The oddsmakers correctly have the Celtics at under 50% to win the championship as it is.

White needs to pass on an extension this summer for the Celtics to consider this, but Orlando has to ask itself if White can sustain his 3-point % when he's not being left wide open or whether he'll revert to his Spurs numbers when he's well guarded.

Get something for white before he gets a max offer in FA

White will sign an extension this summer.

I don’t like it for the Celtics. White is a big part of thier success. They will be a perennial contender for the next 3-5 years at least. Why F with the chemistry and downgrade. They don’t need to save money. 2nd apron is fine.

Yeah, Celtics should be making championship moves, not cost cutting moves in their current situation.

Also. I think the trade is illegal because white makes a bit less than the Orlando package next year? Cs can only take back less or =.
And if it was legal Orlando needs to add value right?
White is a top 30 player in his prime.

I would love to trade Black and a spot-starting Center for a player of Derrick White's caliber.

I have this as a couple 1sts short.

White's an expiring though. Recent lotto pick and a spot starting C seems about right to me

My bad you are right. Would be legal.

I still think the Cs wouldn’t consider this and that picks would have to go to Boston if they were interested.

Idk but my guess is most don't realize just how high the regards White is held in Boston. I'd imagine he's the last of the guys playing at the guard spots in Boston to get traded, including Brown.

Led the starter level guys in +/- two years running and has been amazing stepping into bigger roles when the other top guys have been out.
Edit - clever thread title though. The guy I wanted to steal cheap from Orlando was Suggs, but seems like that ship has sailed.

Yeah that is arguable for sure. One of the best defenders in the league and very efficient offensively. If not too 30 he is right in there somewhere. My point is he is pretty valuable to the Celtics and I can’t see them entering trades for him.

If White is a top 30 player, he’s not getting extended.. those things really can’t go together IMO.

I don’t think there’s a chance he gets extended (limited to below 30 million per right?) I think depsite being 31, he’ll still get max offers and Boston will have to match them. Don’t think they need to beat them and give him 8% raises, so won’t be his true max.. But yeah. He’s getting paid. And I would offer the 5th year and keep him with Tatum for all five years..

Boston should say no to this IMO. They have no reason to risk Black’s development. Their roster is set up really well to live over the second apron for a few years.

Not sure Derrick White is the guard I'd target where I running the Magic. The other White is the one I'm terrified of them getting...thank god we didn't see the White-Black-Murray based trade this season that I was afraid we might

If BOS doesn't win, or at least reach the finals, they could go this route, if they win, they aren't breaking up a championship team.

he should be held in high regard. Very good player. Would love to have him in Orlando (though not on a max or close to max)
