OKC/Spurs draft day trade

To OKC: #5 pick + Zach Collins
To Spurs: #12 pick + Josh Giddey + Future 1st

Josh is a liability on defense but with Wemby back there does it really even matter? On offense though Josh will give Wemby a lot of easy looks and he still has some untapped potential with excellent size and toughness. A change of scenery could do him well.

OKC takes Jalen’s brother with the #5 pick.

This could make sense if the Raptors pick conveys at like 7 and the Spurs don't love anyone higher than that on their board. I don't think they want Giddy any more than OKC does. I don't think he'd be on the team to start the season. However, moving down, saving money and getting a future first is a good deal. If they like this draft at all and that Toronto pick doesn't convey, it's a much harder sell. The Spurs can't come out of this season with a late lotto pick to show for it.

Yeah drop Giddey and it might make more sense.

after hearing about how terrible this draft is for the last 6 months - I dont think it costs a future first and Giddey to move up to 5.

OKC needs to draft in the top 5 a lot less than SAS does though.. But understand the specific target for OKC.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I don't think there's a massive difference between the 5th pick and the 12th pick to justify including Giddy.

I like the idea of OKC trading up. But, I think SA will prefer the higher pick (targeting Risacher or one of the point guards).
But, with the strength of the 2025 draft, if OKC offered up those three protected picks (UTA, MIA, PHI) then I could see SA punting n this draft (just to overload for next year).

I can see CHA or POR being very interested though.
#5-6ish for #12 and one of the three protected firsts (UTA, MIA, PHI)

POR scenario:
POR deals #5 for #12, PHI 2025 protected first.
POR then deals PHI protected first for #16. - PHI saves the cap rookie slot and get pick back for trade versatility.

POR:
#12 - Whichever of the top 12 listed below slides.
#14 - Probably another of that top 12.
#16 - one of the centers (Filipowski/Ware/Edey/Missi)

1 Alex Sarr PF 7'1
2 Zaccharie Risacher SF 6'10
3 Dalton Knecht SF 6'6
4 Matas Buzelis SF 6'10
5 Reed Sheppard SG 6'3
6 Robert Dillingham PG 6'2
7 Stephon Castle PG 6'6
8 Cody Williams SF 6'8
9 Donovan Clingan C 7'2
10 Nikola Topic PG 6'7
11 Ja'Kobe Walter SG 6'5
12 Ron Holland SF 6'7

The only guy I could see OKC really being 'in' on trading a ton to move up for is Sarr. If Sarr is there at #5 I could see this, but I think he almost for sure will be gone.

I would move #1 if PDX got it for Giddey + 12 + Future FRP.

Scoot and Josh isnt a fit shooting wise but PDX needs pure talent and I would not be surprised if Giddey is better than anyone in this draft.

Feels like a really big overpay. Now if there is a player sitting at 5 and OKC is like this is our missing piece, well they should do what it takes to get that player. Of course they should have done that at 4, at 3, at 2, at 1. But if their player was still there at 5 I can't imagine it costs this much.

OKC is the #1 seed - despite Giddey not being good and Dort being one dimensional.
Sarr probably goes #1 and is not really the biggest need. I think OKC needs a good wing - so moving up makes sense. Or, trade the pick and others for someone who fills the bill (Booker, Mikal, etc.) (or use cap for Hield or others).

Besides, its a moot point, the pick will land top 4 and Houston will keep it :)

This is the kind of trade that should be proposed after the draft lottery has passed and pick order is set, right now the Spurs don't even know how many picks they'll have (does the Toronto pick convey?) or where it'll land. It's not the same having #1 + #7 than it is having just #6, let alone everything else.
I will say this though: as the year has come along, it's become increasingly clear the Spurs need shooting as much as everything else if not more, so I'm not sure how interested they'd be in being the team to pony up for Giddey's upcoming pay raise. And as much as I'd like to prioritize star upside, if the Spurs don't love anyone at the top, I wouldn't be against trading down and picking some additional assets. But my first priority would be going for high upside, Spurs really need that future 2nd star next to Wemby.
