I'd do this from the Pistons perspective if we strike out on FA or any other significant trades.

Pistons should do this no questions asked.

That's the valuation assigned for Grant, cap relief and protected 1st, it just happens to be Blazers pick.
I had his value less than the Kings pick, so it was broken into Caruso and Blazers 1st.

We’d take a protected first that is more likely to convey.

They're trading hands are tied. They cannot trade this year's pick because they could owe their 2025 pick depending on their record, they can't trade any future picks because they do not know what year they could have to convey their pick to CHI. If another team came to them with the greatest deal to take the salary they want to move for picks and players but wanted a future pick in return, they can't do it.

THAT'S why they are the team with the most incentive to make a deal for it from the Bulls.

Blazers won’t be in position to make a future picks for current players type move for a long time. Getting our pick back made sense when we had Lillard and wanted to package a bunch of picks for a star. If for some odd reason we need to trade picks for a player sooner, we’ll have picks after the protections end plus various picks from other teams in the late 2020s to send out. So with such unlikeliness of needing our pick to make such a trade, the question reverts back to value, and getting a pick back that is very likely to not to convey anyway just doesn’t hold that much value.
