Clippers-Rockets (No PG13)

Post#1 » by Captain Ballmer » Tue May 7, 2024 8:29 am

Clippers sends PJ Tucker + Westbrook(In case he opt-in)
Houston sends Landale + J.Tate + future 2nd

Clippers needs to get younger at back-up PF-C position. Tucker 39, Plumlee 35. They will replace them with Landale+Tate both under 30 years old get depth for free. Landale looks more mobile than Plumlee, Has better size than Theis. Looks better back-up to Zu for cost controlled contract. Tate is bigger T.Mann could back-up PF position. Westbrook is getting ahead of Bones and couldn't deliver in Playoff.

Houston doing this trade to open up 2025-2026 cap with sending Landale'(8 Million). They look like extend Jalen Green and Alperen in 2025 and in order to keep FVV and stay below Luxury Tax they need to send unnecessary salary. Houston have Alperen & Adams at Center and Jabari & Tari at PF along with Veteran Jeff Green. Seems Landale&Tate redundant in the rotation. In order to shed Landale 25-26 money, they send Tate and Future 2nd to Clippers.

Clipper Rotation;
Harden-Mann-PG?-Kawhi-Zubac
Bones-Norman-Coffey-Tate-Landale

Houston Rotation;
FVV-JalenGreen-Brooks-Jabari-Alperen
Amen-Whitmore-Pick #12-Tari-Adams(Jeff Green)
2023 Clippers W/L Count (51-31)
(Russ at bench 42-15)
without PG13 3-3
Without Kawhi 7-4
Without Russ 6-6

Landale is unguranteed, makes no sense for HOU if you account for that

This does nothing for the Rockets. At all. Landale is unguaranteed.

Bad value for Houston.

It’s not legal either unless George or Harden walk, LAC can’t aggregate salaries, right? Aggregating salaries would hard cap them at second apron and George would sign in Philly I believe?

Clippers should trade a FRP for Neemias Queta instead.

Oh I missed this at first. This trade wouldn't make sense for Houston then.

We can probably send PJ to a team another player coming with additional year they don't want to pay for 25-26 season. Otherwise they will ask picks.

As others noted, Landale is on a contract where the Rockets can decline every season, (3 straight team options. ) if anything he gives them the flexibility to do a lot of things.

You'd only do this as the Rockets if you think PJ and Westbrook are the type of influence you want on this team, certainly there's a case that maybe you want Amen Thompson to learn from Westbrook I guess? I suppose Westbrook as a backup guard is probably helping them win more games than Landale and Tate.

(though Amen and Westbrook is really repetitive as players right now. you're not going to have both coming off the bench in the same lineup much )

The 2nd isn't worth much for the Rockets right now given their lack of roster slots and playing time, so I'd be somewhat interested actually, though it would hinge on what the coaching staff and players really think about these things (like is Westbrook and PJ Tucker ok with this trade? They're not going to be playing more minutes on Houston in most likelihood. )

It's not like the highest priority trade I would swing but if it's out there you should think about it at least if you're Houston.

Can LAC add 2030 picks (only swap but something)?
Also have that 2024 IND 2nd.

Wow, that pick cupboard is bare . . .
Tucker was a fan favorite so no problem with bench swap. Westbrook . . . maybe not. As long as it is an expiring salary though it will not matter much (operating over the cap this year and need the space next).

Westbrook is not opting in to get sent back to the Rockets where he'd ride the bench behind FVV and Green (again). The entire reason he's upset with the Clippers is they handed the starting job to Harden and still lost.
