Philly - Detroit

Post#1 » by howiezbt » Wed May 8, 2024 2:32 pm

Philly Trades: S/T Tobias Harris
Philly Receives: Evan Fournier, Isaiah Stewart, and 2025 Second Round Pick

Detroit gets their man in Tobias Harris to be a wing scorer for them. He will be great as a high usage player. I think he kind of got lost with Embiid and Maxey taking all the shots. They also get out of Fournier's huge contract.

Philly gets young PF/C to back up Joel Embiid. Beef Stew can hold the fort down when Embiid sits and is way better at perimeter defense then Reed and Bamba. They also get a high 2nd round pick for taking on Fournier's contract. Fournier makes a lot of money but he could resurrect his career as a shooter off the bench for Philly. Philly declines Reed's option with this deal which negates some of Fournier's salary. Philly could also use Fournier contract in a trade after December if they want. That way Philly still has a max slot avaiable.

This seems alright for both I guess. I disagree that Detroit should be taking this path though, but seems like that is what they want.

Can you explain why Detroit doesn't just sign Tobias Harris outright? Why would they sign and trade?

Two cap space teams don't typically S+T a Non-Restricted Free Agent.

If I'm the Detroit GM, and I haven't been doing a lot of mind-altering drugs that day, I just sign Tobias Harris as a free agent.
Also Detroit has a club option on Fournier for 24-25. They can get out of his deal by just not exercising the option, but yes, they could also pick up the option then trade him to another team while giving away value as incentive.

A. Fournier has a team option
B. Detroit can just outright sign tobias

I don’t understand this trade for either team. Detroit can just sign Toby and the Sixers definitely don’t want Fournier and Stewart at 15 mil/year isn’t exactly a plus either. I honestly don’t like this for either team.

Philly sends a 2nd to Det to receive a SNT Tobias and Philly gets a TPE…..more likely is worked into a 3 way trade. That is the trade here. Only reason for Det to dump Steward is they want off his contract, I don’t think that is the case.

Yeah, in this case, it would require Detroit wanting to just get off of Stewart's contract?

Detroit isn't picking up Forenier's option. And there is no reason to give away any sort of assets if tobias actually wants to go to detroit. Cap space is the one thing they have plenty of.

Only rationalization here is that OP is actually Evan Fournier's burner and he's trying to trick someone into picking up his $19M team option

Even that doesn't work as Philly would instantly lose the TPE and use cap space instead. Spending a 2nd to get nothing.

It could still be worth it maybe if they just want to keep the avenue open to stay above the cap if their plans are not moving fast enough. Like a top 45 protected one time shot 2nd to leave that avenue open. But as I said more likely a 3 way deal if any deal at all here and will likely keep the SNT open for a while to see Philly can make use of it before maybe taking the TPE or not deal at all.

Fournier is going to be released. Unless a crazy GM thinks he’s worth $19M and wants to trade for him, but I just don’t see that happening.

Do the Pistons even want Tobias? He’s looking a little washed up. I guess he could help a little, but I wouldn’t want to pay much. Like $10-15M per, 2 year deal, 2nd a team option.

I’d much rather see the Pistons use their cap space to go after Monk, Miles Bridges and Claxton.

In what universe do the Pistons send out a quality backup Center, on a decent contract for a washed up Harris?

Let's not even mention the fact that that the team can just outright sign him.

This doesn't make sense.
If Detroit wants Harris (please God no) just sign him
