ATL/SAS - Trae to Spurs

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sun May 12, 2024 8:13 pm

Spurs trade:
#4
Keldon Johnson
DeVonte Graham

Atlanta trades:
Trae Young

Why for San Antonio? They decide not to waste time with an already elite player in Wemby and try to build a contender already next year with them and Vassell. They also keep their other top 10 pick.

Why for Atlanta? They rebuild with the 1st and 4th picks. DeJounte can put up great stats without Trae and then be dealt for more assets.

8 should be included as well imo.

Keldon is good but not sure how much he’s valued in a rebuild.

Hawks won't trade Trae to Spurs without their picks.

This is the rare trade that falls short in what the Spurs should pay, #4 + Keldon isn't enough for Trae. I'm not big on trading for Trae however, I'd rather just pick up Dillingham / Topic / Sheppard (assuming he'd take way more than this to get).

Think today hurt the (small) chances of a Trae trade, not help.

Despite the valuation here by some, 1st will be valued really highly IMO. And you can offer the Sac first, 2029 and 2031 firsts if needed. Atlanta can add pretty much anyone available..

lacks value in my opinion..8 + Graham + the picks and the trade back to the Hawks..?..

If the Spurs did this, they would have to go hunting for another star, so as not to be left halfway. Keldon+#4 for Lauri

I might be wary to build around Trae, but I also wouldn't hesitate to offer this for him. Tells me it is light. At least start with 4 right?

Who could be that guy that fits well?

Along the same lines, I was going to do a Murray to Houston for #3, Brooks, and Cam Whitmore.

This is missing at minimum the Hawks picks returning as well, Trae has flaws but he's still a younger, healthy all-star level player under contract.

I would say this is more likely :

Spurs trade:
2025 Atlanta pick
#8
Keldon Johnson

Atlanta will absolutly want their 2025 pick back in a rebuild and Trae is not worth atlanta pick + #4

Not nearly enough for Trae in my opinion.

I’m still team Trae though I know a lot of people are out on him.

Trade is fine......as long as SAS includes all of Atlanta's picks back on top of this.

With all that cap room, you guys should sign Fultz and not trade for a PG. Save those picks and trade for a star wing instead.

I've been in the "draft a PG" camp basically all season. The Spurs need this drafted talent. It's the picks beyond this year that are negotiable.

Quite an overpay for Murray IMO.

Think we can pretty much wrap up any trades involving Trae. After acquiring the #1 pick, keeping Trae became even more plausible.

I think Houston already has a PG better than Murray

This feels really short. #4 in a bad draft and a 6th man (that is what Keldon ideally is) for Young is almost nothing. I think either 4 or 8 + all of Atlanta's picks returned + filler would be the foundation.

Hawks get the 2nd overall pick in 2024 and a 2025 1st round pick

Wizards get the 4th pick and Devin Vassell

Spurs gets Trae
