Challenge: Get Brandon Ingram back to the Lakers

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Mon May 13, 2024 5:29 pm

The Lakers have:
their own 2024 or 2025 1st (depending on which one the Pels choose this year)
2029 LAL 1st
2031 LAL 1st
swaps in 2026, 2028, 2030
The Lakers can roughly match salary with 2-3 of Rui, Vincent, Vanderbilt, and (more valuable) Reaves

How far off would this valuation be?
2025 LAL 1st, 2029 LAL 1st, rights to swap 1sts in 2028, Vando, Rui, Wood for Ingram (Rui+Wood gets re-routed to a 3rd team for neutral-ish value)

The Lakers add a long scoring wing with versatility. The Pels are rumored to be trading Ingram, and making room for guys like Murphy in a more featured role. They can gamble on the likely upside of future Lakers picks.

Don't like the fit, but he's probably the most affordable "star" player the Lakers can get. The offer would likely be similar to what they'd offer for Dejounte (Reaves/Rui/JHS/1 first). Not sure if that would be enough

Lakers really need someone to stretch the floor. I like Ingram but he's mainly a mid range shooter that doesn't mesh with Lebron.

I don't think that is the best offer available.

The Lakers will have their pick this year but not the 2025 1st. There's a 0% chance the Pels choose to keep this year's pick.

I don't have Ingram's value that high, so 2 1sts and inoffensive filler isn't that poor of an offer in terms of value. I think that the catch is that NO will be looking for a significant player back in an Ingram trade as opposed to depth guys and draft pick value. So you'd need to find a 3rd team willing to give a guy NO cares about for depth guys and draft pick value.

Ingram without an extension place is a really hard guy to place value on.

I guess there's also the concern that as the Pells have the Lakers 2025 1st they wouldn't want to help them make a win in 2025 move. Though you can certainly argue that trading depth for Ingram would both increase the Lakers upside but also lower their floor for the season.

But when I suggested Dallas could get Ingram for the 2025/2031 firsts it was impossible..

I think LAL can offer enough, but you need to tie in the right third team.

Does Atlanta value Reaves, Rui, 17th, 2029 first over just taking Ingram and whatever NOP adds for themselves? Maybe Ingram won’t agree to extend in Atlanta in this scenario?

I'm in the camp that thinks the Pels need to target a point guard if they're going to break up the CJ/Zion/BI trio. Trae or Dejonte seems the best bet for the Pels. Lakers don't really have the right pieces to make a move for BI by themselves. Would need a third team to give value to Pels that covets Reaves/Rui or whoever.

Ingram should not be a target unless he comes at a rental price. Mortgaging any significant future pieces for a questionable-fitting, barely above-average player with no contract security would be a desperate move.
