Hawks trade #1 to Spurs for #4 and #8

Post#1 » by donkki » Tue May 14, 2024 1:34 am

Hawks trade:
#1 pick
+ future pick(s) and/or player

Spurs trade:
#4 pick
#8 pick

Spurs get their new French twin towers with Wemby and Sarr. Hawks jump start their rebuild with two high lottery picks.

I don't think there's any way the Spurs do this. The gap between 1 and 4 isn't large enough.

Hawks aren't rebuilding or able to rebuild without getting our picks back from the Spurs.

Sarr also provides more for us than any other prospect.

Yeah there's zero reason for San Antonio to do this. #4 is probably Risacher unless Houston or Washington take him and #8 is probably Topic of The Spurs walk away with that they are set up even more for a faster rebuild.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if Atlanta tried to trade with Utah by using #1 and anything other than Trae to get Lauri to make a playoff push next year.

I have Sarr a tier to himself, not interested in 4 and 8 with the guys in this draft.

This. You might get a good 2nd or a bad 1st.

The Spurs only do this if they’re in love with a specific prospect (Sarr) and Atlanta only does this if they think there isn’t a clear number 1.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

See, I think they’d be happy to. If his draft is as thin as is reported, then the only way to ensure you can get the one guy you think could be something is to draft number 1.

If SA thinks there’s 8 or so guys that are all pretty equal and could all equally help their ball club, then i’d agree with you.

Well it depends what the additional pick from the Hawks is. Is it their unprotected in 25 or 26?

Just for fun, i went ahead and compared #1 to #4 and #8 in the last five drafts...

Wembanyama vs Amen Thompson and Jarace Walker

Banchero vs Keegan Murray and Dyson Daniels

Cunningham vs Scottie Barnes and Franz Wagner

Anthony Edwards vs Patrick Williams and Obi Toppin

Zion vs DeAndr Hunter vs Jaxson Hayes

So ya LOL, no thanks.....

To be fair, I don't see how this year's draft is comparable to those you listed, which all had a clear cut favorite for first pick, and this does not seem to be the case with this year's draft. Surely if there would be a Wemby or a Zion on board then yeah the trade wouldn't make much sense, but as said, there is no clear cut number one player at the moment.

Except that's silly, because this year picking 1 isn't much different to picking 4. Not every draft is the same.

Except that not true. The Edwards draft was also called weak and nobody believed in Edwards coming out of UGA. You can look at the old 2020 threads.

You can do #1 vs #4 #8 in the last 10 or 20 years and you will get similar results.

This is not true. In 2020 draft it was a five man race for #1, Edwards, Wiseman, Lamelo, Killian, and Avdija and this is not even including Haliburton who was protected to be a mid to late lottery talent.

Atlanta should only do this if the plan is to trade 8 and draft Clingan at 4 or something like that. Split the win now with the young core.

If not, you take the top end talent as you already have a depth and need high end.

SAS should only not do this if the narrative that they love everyone in the top 5 the same is true.

In this draft it's more like having the #10 or the #13 and #17. That's a better comparison.

Or just go back to the 2013 draft if you want a comparison of 1 vs 4 and 8.

Anthony Bennett or Cody Zeller and KCP.

Spurs would be out of their minds to do this. Draft is too flat.

Lol every year we hear the same story on this board: that this is an [X]-player draft, where [X] is coincidentally the pick my favorite team has.
