Atlanta/LA Clippers Simple Swap...

Post#1 » by pja123 » Mon Jan 7, 2008 7:34 pm

Hawks get:
Sam Cassell
Quinton Ross
Paul Davis

Clipps get:
Salim Stoudemire
Tyronn Lue
Lorenzon Wright

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Cassell would bolster their backcourt and improve their chances of making the playoffs. They could use his feiry personality and veteran experience. Yes, Anthony Johnson is doing a great job as the starting PG, but he's better served in a backup role. Adding Cassell would really give the Hawks some guidance and stability at the 1 spot, at least for the remainder of this season.
HAWKS LINE-UP:
PG-Cassell/Johnson/Law
SG-Johnson/Ross
SF-Williams/Chill
PF-Smoove/Williams/Jones
C-Horford/Pachulia/Davis

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CLIPPS:
Cassell is voicing his displeasure with the team and could demand a trade soon. This deal nets them servicable role players with expiring contracts. Essentially, it's addition by subtraction. There's no reason to keep Cassell around for the rest of the season if he's going to complain and pollute the locker room. Plus, this opens up more PT for Dickau, Knight, and the newly acquired Stoudemire.
CLIPPS LINE-UP:
PG-Lue/Dickau/Knight
SG-Mobley/Stoudemire
SF-Maggette/Thomas
PF-Thornton/Williams/Powell
C-Kaman/Wright

I like the premise of this trade, but isn't Davis out for the year? Cassell might start 'having fun' again with a team that is winning a bit more, so I like the deal.

Not sure if Davis is out. It's not that important; he wouldn't see much PT with the Hawks.

trading expiring for expirings isn't what the clippers are looking for, they'd get the same result letting sam walk and they don't really care about opening minutes for dickau or knight. and the clippers are supposed to throw in ross on top of that? with all due respect, this trade is awful for the clippers. change ross and davis for tim thomas and you might have something.
