Clippers/Hawks/Kings Blockbuster!

Post#1 » by N.O.R.E. » Sun Jan 4, 2009 11:28 am

Clips Trade: Kaman, Baron Davis
Receive: Jason Thompson, Bibby, Shelden, Douby, Hawks protected 1st

Camby/Thompson/DeAndre
Randolph/Shelden
Thornton/Ricky??
E.Gordon/Douby
Bibby/Hart/Collins

The Clippers already regret the Baron signing IMO and could use some salary flexibility and should try and re-build on the fly. Thompson would be groomed behind Camby and Shelden could be worth a look in limited PT behind Zach. The Clips would draft the best PG available in the draft and would have loads of cap space in 2010 to attract a premier FA. Think about it, huge market, enough young talent (that should be somewhat developed by then) and the future flexibility for major signings (Zach expires when Carmelo and Dwight (IIRC) are FAs). All they need to do now is get rid of Dunleavy...

Hawks Trade: Smith, Bibby, Speedy, protected 1st
Receive: Kaman, Baron Davis, Mikki Moore, 2nd

Kaman/Moore
Horford/Zaza
Marv/Evans
JJ/Flip
B Diddy/Law

The Hawks solidify their line-up and transform into legitimate contenders.

Kings Trade: Thompson, Moore, Shelden, Douby, 2nd
Receive: Josh Smith, Speedy

Hawes/B.Miller
J.Smith/D.Greene
Salmons/Garcia
K-Mart/??
Udrih/B-Jax/Bobby Brown

The Kings get a legitimate 2nd star to pair with Kevin Martin. The Kings would use this years lotto pick on a PG and could potentially use Salmons to ditch Udrih's contract while getting a reasonably productive short-term deal. A core of K-Mart, Josh Smith, Hawes, a lotto pick and a significant signing in 2010 has the makings of a great team.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of the Kings trading Jason Thompson, but for Josh Smith, I think they would have to at the very least seriously consider it.

Kings would probably pull the trigger on that move.

Ya, kings do this in a heartbeat, I think the clippers do it, but the hawks hang up the phone. I would say the hawks get rid of the 1st and we're good... hopefully.

Yup. Kings do this probably, then dump Salmons, and maintain the same cap space that we would still have in '10.

Kings fans have spoken, any thoughts from either Clipper or Hawk fan?

There is no doubt in my mind the Kings do this and I agree it may be a little bit too much for the Hawks to give up. This deal had the Clips dumping B Diddy in mind, but him, Bibby and the 1st could be taken out completely to simplify the deal...

When I look at this for the second time, I think that the hawks say no to this deal big time. Baron isn't much of an upgrade from bibby purely because of his contract and how long it is, and then it would be kaman for smith, which is a big no. So I would say clipps need to change their pick to a first with heavy protection and kings add hou pick to go to the clipps.

so it looks like this.

Clipps trade: davis, kaman, 1st (either future or lotto pro)
Clipps get: bibby, thompson, shelden, douby, hou 1st

hawks trade: bibby, smith, speedy
hawks get: davis, kaman, mikki, clips pick

sac trades: thompson, douby, shelden, mikki, hou 1st
sac gets: smith, speedy

Still, I think that hawks say no. Smith is really good. Kaman is a better fit, but pure talent overrides fits.

I really hate it for the Hawks. If I am the hawks GM I wouldn't do Bibby for Baron straight up- the rest of the deal just makes it even worse.

There is no point in the kings even being in this deal. The clips would want Josh Smith so the trade would just be Kaman and Baron for Smith and Bibby.

Does this variation make it more appealing to the Hawks?

Clips trade: Kaman
Receive: Jason Thompson, Shelden, Douby

The Clips get younger and cut Kaman's $10mil+ off the books.

Hawks trade: Josh Smith, Speedy
Receive: Kaman, Mikki, Rox 09 1st

The Hawks get a better fit and also receive pretty fair value for Smoove.

Kings trade: Thompson, Shelden, Mikki, Douby, Rox 09 1st
Receive: Josh Smith, Speedy

The Kings get a legitimate PROVEN 2nd option for a pretty small price.

The Kings would probably have to send the Clips a small filler that would be cut to make it work cap-wise.

I think the Clippers could get more, and will get more, than Jason Thompson + expirings for Kaman.

The only concern I have on the Kings end is that Smith is a better PF than SF and that kind of means the Kings will have to go small a lot of the time with no real rebounding or post presence at the 4. I wouldn't mind becoming a run and gun team though because some of the players we have would be great in that style.
