Chicago came dangerously close to trading with Toronto to take Wade at #4, they didn't because they didn't want to give up, and don't laugh Donyell Marshall at age 29 to move up from 7 to 4 only. Then they traded him anyways to Toronto a few months later.

Damn hahah...there were rumors the Heat thought of taking Chris Kaman instead of Wade at 5 as well. Riley wanted Bosh but he was gone if I remember right. Man if the Pistons took Wade or even Melo or Bosh instead of Darko they would of been deadly for awhile with that team.

Toronto took Bosh at 4, Detroit skipped Carmelo at 2 because they had a vet team and didn't want to draft Melo and mess up their chemistry so they took Darko as a project. If you're near the top of the draft, take the best talent or trade down.

Yeah they overthought that one. Melo would of really given them a nice scoring punch and Wade well would of made them insane.

Wade was killing them in just his 2nd season in the ECF if not for injury and beat them in his 3rd averaging like 27pts on 62fg% against that defense in low scoring games! That must of really made them regret the Darko pick haha. I'd be a Pistons fan right now if they'd drafted him, thank god they didn't lmao
