Here's the rub: every team in the NBA is pursuing the functional talent and size

After getting the Nuggets general manager job, Booth had his staff study all the teams that made the Finals since 2008 to find out their average wingspan and weight. They took the top eight rotations, exempting the smallest player in the group since it'd skew the averages, and found that the average player had a wingspan of 6-foot-11 with a weight of 228 pounds.

If a team's rotation didn't hit one of those two thresholds, they weren't in the Finals-except for the 2013 Heat. "One of the most athletic teams of all time. LeBron. D-Wade. Shane Battier. Chris Bosh," Booth said.

"And so, seeing that, I don't like trying to be the exception to the rule."

It's what iv'e been saying for months now -

It's time to supersize the entire team.

Get a huge C that can shot (Like K.Ware), move Bam to PF, Jovic and JJJ at SF, Jimmy at SG, if we can also add a big strong long PG like Devin Carter do it.

It's time to go back to Heat basketball - get bigger, tougher, longer, hope to build and elite defending rebounding hussling team with just enough scoring. Because we don't have that elite scoring talent.

Go back to Pre-Wade Miami Heat?

Size and Power it is then and in looking back at the 2000 Heat roster kinda reminds me of the old movie Slapshot Charleston Chiefs, a big team peppered with some goons that can somewhat grind opp down. Def dwarfs the current team roster, esp at the C and PF positions!

12 Bruce Bowen SF 6-7 185
25 Anthony Carter PG 6-1 190
4 Duane Causwell C 7-0
23 Cedric Ceballos SF 6-7 220
21 Ricky Davis SG 6-6 195
35 Todd Fuller C 6-11 255
44 Brian Grant PF 6-10 254

10 Tim Hardaway PG 6-0 175

How do we get that as quick as possible? Thats what I want to know.

What if size isn't the issue with the injury luck? That's something we have very little control over. We know we need talent and fit, gotta prioritize that regardless of size; but essentially, we're all talking about and want the same thing

I think one of the ways we can immediately improve 'size' is by ensuring that at all times we have at least 2 6'10" players (or taller) on the court. That means no more Hayward Highsmith and Jaime at the 4 spot.

At all times, play a combination of Jovic, Bam, KLove, backup C as your 4 and 5.

Highsmith, Jaime, and Caleb (if he's back) have good size for a wing.

Im doing a draft deep dive personally to get those talents.

I was just looking at this, but is Toronto the only team that has won a chip in the past 35 years that didnt draft their franchise player?

Just make the pelicans a 1 stop shop then; get Ingram herb and JVal.

Dont we have MLE access this summer or nah?

Terry/Wright
Herb/vet
Jimmy/Jaime
Ingram/vet
Bam/Jval

Herro 6’5 with 6’3 wingspan gone.
Duncan 6’7 with 7’1 wingspan gone (not bad measurements) prefer to keep Duncan over Terry?
Jovic 6’10 with 7’1 Wingspan gone.

Herb 6’8 7’1 wingspan elite defender.
Ingram 6’8 7’3 wingspan scorer
JVal 7’0 7’6 wingspan ( :o ) bruiser who can shoot some too

KD was the Finals MVP twice for GS. Lakers beat Miami with AD and LeBron. Shaq was the best player for the 2000-2002 Lakers

I gave GSW the benefit of the doubt due to their team and previous success.

Totally blanked on Bron/AD and Shaq. Thanks.

Don't get me started on this team. This was the year, man. The team was set up to bring Miami its first championship. Devastatingly lost absolute prime Zo (2nd in MVP voting the prior season) to his kidney disease and our shot withered away.

Backup center needs to be very good on D and rebounding and that's not cheap to acquire unless you draft him.

But I agree with you. The undersized forward **** has to stop. It's led to barely making the playoffs two years in a row; time to get big and stay big.

Edit: actually, wait...I think we should slide Niko to 3 (like MPJ), Bam 4, and someone at center; Thomas Bryant and Orlando Robinson are some bad choices next to Bam unless Bam continues to improve and take outside shots. Otherwise, getting a center that would fit next to Bam would be expensive af to get.

Zo's illness was absolutely heart breaking but from that got to see an undersized Brian Grant just step into the C spot with zero complaints and go at it!

Return to Miami Heat
