Ira was talking either last week or the previous on the O show on Mondays. its usually posted on youtube tuesdays if you wan't to go listen. However Ira stated that speaking to Spo they are really invested in Jovics growth, like really serious, the assistant coaches have a very good plan he has to abide by and he is improving everyday. However he is a big man, and still unpolished, they do not want to derail him by having him lose his confidence. Similar to Bam, he got very little playing time his first 3 years, they are taking their time with him. If anything he will problably start having the type of role we want from him not until Jimmy is gone or rearview mirror. Ira said just listening to Spo you problably won't see him join the team front and center until either next year or even the next. However when we do is because they feel is ready to go out there and be successful. At this time they just don't gain much from him just playing 10-15 minutes. His body is still filling in, he is still growing, and they do have some vision for he will become on this team, and their building up to that.
Look no further than JJJ, with 4 years under his belt, his maturity and footwork is head and shoulders above anything from this draft class, and even then he is situational. Jovic has a way higher ceiling just on his size and shooting mechanics and handles, he is gonna do great in the Miami program. If you can envision what they do with undrafted tweeners without jumpshots that only play defense imagine what our program would do to someone like him after 3-4 years.
You don't keep talent buried deep on the bench. Bam played from his rookie season, and didn't play more because of our investment in Whiteside. Herro played right away. Winslow played as a 19 year old.
I'm not buying the development nonsense.
Who should he be playing over? Jaquez Jr and Highsmith both need minutes too, and they’re more dependable defensively.
You cannot compare Guards and Wings to Bigs, the only one on that list you have for a comparison on play time as a first round pick is Bam, and regardless of that yeah we had Whiteside, but if it wasn't Whiteside it would of been another veteran. Bam also played similar to Jovic in his first year, when injuries happened and we had nobody else was available. Highsmith has been on the program for multiple years and is trusted for his defensive prowess. JJJ is a rookie but a 4 year player who is far more polished and plug and play in multiple positions that Spo likes, plus like Highsmith does very well on defense. Also the words from the Heat staff in regards to Jovic has always been from day one, developmental selection. Also Spo on his first year was saying he would love to see him in their workout program after 2 years, this will be a longer process than we like unfortunately.
One more thing I would like to say, there is currently as of this moment no Umph factor for Jovic.
Herro from day one Pick 13, shooter, motion shooter, off the bounce shooter.
Bam from day one, Pick 14 defensive clamp, mobility & rebounding, screening, rolling to the basket scorer.
Winslow from day one, Pick 10 defensive clamp on the perimeter, good ball handling and passing instincts.
All three were picked in the draft lottery 1-14 range.
Jovic is late first rounder picked 27th, who was called a developmental Euro skilled big man. I don't know how hard it is to understand. He doesn't do anything great, he plugs a lot of holes, and does a lot of good things, but needs polishing on his game all around. He also has a bunch of other guys in front of him in the power/center rotation. Miami can take their time with his developement.
