What about optimism?

Post#1 » by Neapolitan Buck » Mon Jan 7, 2008 1:59 am

This board is becoming too pessimistic on this season. We had a ton of problems of any kind, but we are 13-20 with 14 games at home and 19 on the road, which means that we are only 1 game down .500 in reality. With 20 of the final 32 games at home, with 2 winnable games right ahead of us, and with Bell taking confidence, I believe we can battle for a playoff spot in the East. With only Boston, Detroit and Orlando that are a lock in the playoffs picture, the situation of the other teams is this one:

OFFICIAL STANDINGS:

4) Wizards 17-15 17
5) Nets 17-16 19
6) Cavs 17-17 16
7) Raptors 17-17 16
8) Hawks 15-16 17

9) Pacers 16-18 17
10) 76ers 14-19 (They play in LA tonight) 16
11) Bulls 13-19 16
12) BUCKS 13-20 14

I consider the Heat, the Bobcats and the Knicks out of playoff contention (even if Miami can do a strong push). But Check the real situation:

STANDINGS BASED ON HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE:

4) Cavs: record 17-17, home-away 16-18; 1 over .500
5) Raptors: record 17-17, home-away 16-18; +1
6) Wizards: record 17-17, home-away 17-17; 0
7) Pacers: record 16-18, home-away 17-17: -1
8) BUCKS: record 13-20, home-away 14-19; -1

9) Nets: 17-16, 19-14; -2
10) Hawks: 15-16, 17-14; -2
11) 76ers: 14-19, 16-17; -2
12) Bulls: 13-19, 16-16; -3

If we can (and to me, we can) end this terrible 17-game January at 19-28 (6-8 in the 14 January games), we can make a push with 21 of the final 35 and 20 of the last 32 at home. So I don't want to see another rebuilding thread or anything like that until Mid-February :wavefinger: . Then, if we suck to that date( I pray this is not going to happen  ), then I authorize you with the rebuilding threads :D

The team is on pace for 32-50. Even if you take into account the home/away records as of now (9-5 and 4-15 right now), the team is on pace to finish 35-47. Everything should be kept in perspective around those projections.
