Are people really driving to the Smokies without going through Frankfort Kentucky to hit Buffalo trace on the way?

That’s half the attraction for dad.

Nah, you're normal. Things like this are why I feel we have yet to hit the Great Filter.

I'm not sure what good is going to come out of AI. As someone who works at a large tech company that is all in on AI at the moment.

I often feel irrationally doom-y about AI so I'm glad I'm not alone. Read this while watching a 60M piece about energy weapons which felt perfectly dystopian.

Biggest issue is AI is trained on other people. If most people were perfect at their job it would probably work, but most people are not good at their jobs.

It'll make your job so easy you won't have one. That's the problem.

I went to a legal conference about six months ago where one of the speakers talked about using AI to do legal work for you.

There was a story around then of a lawyer who got caught using ChatGPT to draft his legal filings, unaware that all of the case citations were made up.

My life is pretty good and I'm comfortable with it, but only 3 things really scare me: Chance of nuclear war, AI drastically changing our lives for the worst, and the heat in the first round.

As someone in IT with a good amount of programming, I was in on ChatGPT pretty early. It's great to plug in a problem and have it do the coding grunt work. Obviously, I then have to go through it, make sure it's secure and tailor to what I'm doing, but it saves so much time on the upstart. People are just lazy and getting burned.

When's the last time you saw an athlete's foot commercial? I feel like 10 years ago I saw them EVERY commercial break with the glowing red toes and then spraying something on. Now, never. Maybe it's been cured.

I firmly believe parents should get an extra 10 days of PTO for sick kids. Pretty sure I’ve already used 6-8 for each kid already this year between Covid, flu, fevers, and other crap.

My daughters are nuts for horses so we went through Lexington and stopped at Secretariat's farm. I actually enjoyed that quite a bit.

Lot of words when I could have gotten to the crux merely by responding "De La Soul x Teenage Fanclub"

Brevity matters.imo
“I went to Toronto, I went to Atlanta/I used to drink Pepsi, but now I like Fanta.”

Ehh, one parent needs to try to have a flexible schedule and you need a backup plan and you need a backup to the backup plan.

I had a new one today.

Twirlina: My tummy hurts.

Me: Ok, go try to poop.

Twirlina: I don't have to.

Me: Ok whatever.

Plays for a while, 30ish minutes later

Twirlina: My tummy hurts.

Me: Ok, we're going to go try this time.

*She pees, says she doesn't have to poop, fine, whatever.*

Ok now wipe and wash your hands and we can go play again.

Twirlina: I don't want to wipe.

Me: Girl, you don't like your hands being even a little bit wet after you wash them. Go wipe because if you can't stand your hands being wet, you sure as hell aren't going to enjoy your underwear being wet.

I may not be the smartest guy, but I'm sure as hell smarter than a 3 year old.
