What if detroit did not sign ty conklin?

Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Sun May 31, 2009 8:27 am

Ty conklin could have easily been pittsburgs top goal tender this season if detroit did not go out and sign him.He could have given detroit fits.I beleive that was a more important signing than hossa.
I don't believe conklin would have let the 2 goals go in off his legs.

Can't say that I agree with Conklin being a more important signing than Hossa (since Conklin hasn't played in the playoffs) but he was definitely big when Osgood was struggling in the regular season. I don't mind him as a backup at all.

As far as starting for the Pens. Maybe, but I doubt it. Not because he's much worse then Fleury, but because the Pens have a lot invested in Fleury since he's their goalie of the future. Fleury's got a pretty long leash so it would have taken Conklin playing out of his mind or Fleury playing horrible for Conklin to win out. No doubt he would have been better then Fleury last night though. "Flower's" a big reason why I'm confident about the series.

And keep posting here, we need more Wings fans on this forum!

Conklin did play against Chicago, even if the game was out of reach at that point.

I think it has a little merit, but not enough to sway the series. I do think it could come into play if he's needed, but at this point, it's just another Penguin who jumped ship, imo.

i find it hard to believe Conklin would be playing over MAF, regardless of how poorly he has been at times
