This schedule is brutal. In the first 25 games, only 1/3 of them are at home.

Yeah, that is pretty bad. I guess I'll go out on a limb and predict yet another slow start for the Oil.

So I don't know about anyone else, but so far I'm rather impressed by this team's ability to battle back from 2-goal deficits. Last year, we wouldn't have had a prayer. Yes, I would love to see the Oilers absolutely decimate their opponents with 6-0 shutouts, but it's those scrappy games that you have to claw your way to the top that make the difference in the standings. Right now, we are making that difference.

4-0-0 is a fantastic start. Keep it up, boys.

Definitely a great start. It'll be interesting to see how well they can keep it up over the huge road swing starting tonight against the Blackhawks.

This thread is pretty much dead, but I just had to post after tonight's game:

Ales Hemsky IS. A. GOD.

(A bit much?)

Ridiculous performance tonight: two goals on three shots, four points overall, and an almost single-handed victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. So far after coming back from his injury he has six points (four goals) in his first two games, and despite missing 2-3 weeks of play and being a playmaker first and foremost, he leads the Oilers in goals.

Tough loss to Columbus last night we really could have used that one to get out that log jam for seventh, but i'll give the Jackets credit Mason played really well, the kids going to be a huge star, and Torres scored a big goal.

Pretty lack luster effort last night Ottawa, those are games we can't afford to loose right now with the west being so tight. O'Sullivan and Kotalik didn't look great but it was only their first game and they only joined the team that day.

Big win last night over the Hawks, Roli was huge for us last night.

Not exactly a resounding effort against a current playoff competitor, but we're still holding onto our spot, so that's something. This has the potential to be a very tight race for the 7th and 8th spots.

lol I think I might be able to figure out which one of us is the optimist. But right now things are not looking so good. We have to win tonight and we have to beat San Jose which is a pretty tall task. We still have a shot at the playoffs but its a long one...

2-1 going into the third. However, even if we do win, whether or not it matters will likely depend on the result of the St. Louis/Phoenix game. And even then, we would still be a point behind both the 8th and 9th spots with the same amount of games to go; in other words, in the exact same position as Minnesota.
