1. We cannot do a sign and trade. Hard cap would follow and we are way over it

2. Signing Kyle and Monte is possible because of bird rights. We have no mid level and could only offer anyone else the minimum.

3. Signing Kyle and trading him at the deadline is how you get a trade done. But any trade exemption created does not carry over into next year.

3pt shooting. Also using him as example for what we can do to improve roster in the summer while keeping the core.

So basically, our best course of action maybe sign both of those guys. See if we could trade this year's 1st for a next year first. Then mid season package the pick (incentive)+KA + Morris (maybe) for a player.

For what it is worth, I cannot imagine a scenario where a team trades a pick in next year's draft in favour of the #27 overall pick.

Yes, maybe we throw in this year's second from DLo trade or the 1st for two future seconds.

Tim Connelly has a relationship with Monte Morris going back years. When Mike declines (gonna happen sooner or later,) Monte is next in line. Monte is a better player than you have seen this year. When healthy and not out for half the year he shoots well and has excellent judgement. Also his defense has been a pleasant surprise. Trading Kyle at the mid season is the best idea for improving the team.

No. We would be over the second apron, so we would not be allowed to combine players in a trade to salary match.

Yes, if money was no object. Remember, the incremental cost of signing either would be much more than the players salary, simply from lux taxes

$0-5 million above tax line: $1.50 per dollar (up to $7.5 million)
$5-10 million above tax line: $1.75 per dollar (up to $8.75 million)
$10-15 million above tax line: $2.50 per dollar (up to $12.5 million)
$15-20 million above tax line: $3.25 per dollar (up to $16.25 million).
For every additional $5 million above tax line beyond $20 million, fees increase by $0.50 per dollar.

Let’s say we are $10 mil over the lux, and want to sign Kyle for a $10 mil. That costs the owner $10 + $12.5 lux + $16.25 lux = $39 mil and he has to ask himself .. “Is Kyle worth $39 mil to me, or can we get by without him?”

Valid point but not my point. Remember, you don’t pay the tax till the end. Let’s say you trade Kyle for a couple 2nds and an exemption (trade into space,) then you could use the exemption like a MLE and sign the best buyout player. Or, you could trade for two players equaling 10 and add depth. Assuming you want Monte, Kyle is the only contract left with which to work.

I am more concern with the salary slot then KA although you point is still valid. A $6mil slot would end up costing $25+ mil. But the tax money are donations to Salvation Army right :D

This article is suggesting you guys would trade McDaniels over KAT if true I’m sure Sacramento would offer multiple firsts and your choice of Huerter or Barnes

McDaniels is considered to be part of the core, along with Edwards, Reid and maybe NAW, going forward. Should the Wolves... Taylor... consider trading anyone, Towns would be sacrificed.

Bleacher Report.

I don’t think that’s an unfair offer, but I suspect Jaden McDaniels would be one of the last players that Tim Connelly would trade. If you recall, he was the guy that Danny Ainge really wanted in the Rudy Gobert deal. Connelly made the hard call to add additional picks, which made him a laughingstock at the time, rather than include McDaniels. The truth is that Gobert is maximized with terrific perimeter defense from Jaden, Ant, and NAW. Since then, Jaden really bloomed last year, and probably deserved to be on the All Defense team. Now that he’s locked up longterm. I think it’s highly unlikely Connelly trades him.

Jaden hasn’t taken the step forward offensively I think we’d hoped for, but a wing his age with his defensive ability and still offensive upside on the wing, he’s not being moved.

This is not the time to discuss this, BUT, if the owners decide we need to cut costs, it’ll be KAT that gets moved. If that happens, I’m guessing the aim will be a young PF. The dream scenario would be a Jabari Smith or Jalen Johnson and a pick (Reed Sheppard would look nice here, just saying).

Playoff Jaden is a real thing. He just dropped 18 and 25 in different playoff games while playing 1st team all NBA defense against 3 elite scorers. He is also only 23 and on a decent deal for the next 5 years, (especially as the cap rises and similar deals get more expensive.) Jaden is not likely to go anywhere. The biggest mission for Finch and the coaching staff is trying to turn playoff Jaden into regular Jaden.

I am not trading playoff Jaden but can he maintain it all year? Wolves have time, they don't have to cut cost (if that is the path) until mid season. It's really too bad NBA didn't fix the supermax tax problem. The "super" part should be tax exempted and not count towards cap hit.

It would have been pretty cool if Minnesota packaged a player with a Second Round Draft Pick so the team could push back the looming Repater-Tax problem that will implode the team, should they win a Championship.

I thought it was too late. Our chance was at the deadline, we didn’t make a move, so we’re in the tax for this year. Which means next year, when we’ll obviously be in the tax, we’ll be repeaters. I could be wrong though.
