Timberwolves Vegas Summer League Thread (roster included)

Post#1 » by mnWI » Thu Jul 3, 2008 8:54 am

The roster will be as follows, though it could be subject to further changes. Kaniel Dickens ended up backing out of his commitment, but it's still a surprisingly talented roster. I bolded the players who I think have a shot at making an NBA regular season roster given the right situation (didn't bother with the guys already on the team).

Pooh Jeter, PG
Blake Ahearn, PG/SG
Drew Neitzel, PG/SG
Bryce Taylor, SG
Vince Grier, SG/SF
Corey Brewer, SF
Dan Coleman, SF
Kevin Love, PF/C
Chris Richard, PF/C
Longar Longar, C

and the name I was talking about in the other thread, still a maybe, is Patrick O'Bryant.

Jeter is one of my favorite players, and will hopefully get his chance to stick as the third point guard.

The game schedule is as follows:
July 14th vs. Dallas, 10:30PM Est
July 16th vs. L.A. Lakers, 8:30PM Est
July 17th vs. Portland, 10:30PM Est
July 19th vs. Milwaukee, 8:30PM Est
July 20th vs. New York, 4:00PM Est

I had read the Pekovic was going to play in the summer league. Is that even possible or was it just speculation?

wow, Vince Grier!

I have to admit, I love that guy and I couldn't believe he didn't stick

hard to find a player that gifted off the dribble and when his jumper his falling he can drop 40 on you in a blink

And he plays defense too. Where has he even been anyways? He was with the Heat, then I think he must've joined a buddhist monastery or something because i haven't heard anything since.

Unfortunately he has no shot of making the team unless he averages 55/20

Sweet! I created Grier in NBA 2K8 for the wolves when I first got the game. I don't have much interest in POB.

Why is O'Bryant only a maybe? I think we should definitely give him a look. :D

+1

POB could be the young athletic 7-footer we need to round out our c/pf rotation.

Bolding Grier but not Neitzel?

I assume the "maybe" is on O'Bryant's end, not the Wolves' end.

Could someone provide a link to the other thread, because I'm not finding it.

I'm very interested in whatever info I can find out about our attempts to get O'Bryant.

He was playing in France. Stats from last year (30 games):

13.0ppg, 4.7rpg, 2.4apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 47.8%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 61.0%

McCants did the summer league last year. I think you might be thinking of the D-League, or maybe their is a loophole?

This is from a preview of last years summer league:

Rashad McCants: Vegas holds utmost importance to McCants, who actually requested that he be allowed to play (rare for first-round picks heading into their third season). After showing a great deal of promise as a rookie when his minutes were extended in the spring, Rashad spent the 2006-07 season recovering from major knee surgery. Like Foye and Smith, his face is one that Wolves employees have become accustomed to seeing in the practice facility on a daily basis. Will his explosiveness be where it was? ’Shaddy seems about as hungry as a bear coming out of hibernation to prove it, a fact that could spell trouble for Vegas defenders.

That's what I meant. I wish Foye would request to play. Pull a McCants or Artest.
