I played with Chad Ford's 2009 Lottery Simulator over at ESPN a bit, to see who he liked for us, and it came out like this:

1. Blake Griffin
2. Ricky Rubio
3. Hasheem Thabeet
(Monroe? and Harden?)*
6. Jeff Teague
7. Willie Warren

* With the sixth pick, it becomes impossible to see #4 or #5. Its unlikely, but possible for Teague to be #4, but there's no way to eliminate Monroe or Hardin.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/lottery2009/mockdraft

We are one of few teams that would draft Thabeet that high .. in fact, he sometimes is still on the board when we pick 6th or 7th. If we wanted Thabeet, it seems like another chance for one of our always-successful "lottery trade downs," if we don't get a Top 2 pick.

Here are the odds with the sixth pick:

6.3% #1
7.1% #2
8.1% #3
43.9% #6
30.5% #7
4.0% #8
0.1% #9

Teague is intriguing because his shooting percentages are off the charts, but what's the track record for scoring guards under 6'4" in the NBA at this point, it's pretty much universally horrible isn't it?

Teague is projected to be a point guard by everyone I've seen.

Teague reminds me to much of Foye pre-draft. I just am not seeing the pg in him.
3.7ast 3.3TO 1.1/1

That is not a pg.

Harden being undersized and slow really worries me.

He's not a pure pg, but there's alot of successful point guards in the league that aren't pure point guards. Guys like Baron Davis or Jason Terry. Russell Westbrook isn't a pure point.

Me too, at least for a guy who's being considered as high as #2.

Right now I like Rubio, Holiday maybe Thabeast with our pick. (*thabeast with the logic that there is decent pg prospects with the miami pick)

I still think our way to success will be a trade where expirings and minor prospects are moved for legit piece. The draft will help, but not give us the star.

Worm, I agree that teams succeed without true pg's, but Teague might not even be a pg.

I don't like Teague.

What the difference between Teague and say, Jack McClinton out of Miami who probably won't even get drafted? Teague just plays for a more high profile team. Other than that, I don't see much of a disparity.

Well there's a pretty big difference between 6'4" and 6'1" for a scoring guard. I haven't really watched McClinton much, but just that difference is pretty huge for a combo guard sort of player.

If we took Harden we would look like the most out-of-shape team in the league.

When did Teague become 6'4"?

EDIT: DX has Teague listed at 6'2" 180 and Mclinton at 6'1" 185, so their size is negligible.

Teague gets to the free throw line 3.5 more times per game than McClintock and is 2 years younger. Teague also dunks over people.

I want no part of Teague. If our pick ends up in the 8-10 range (highly unlikely at this point) and Teague and Curry are on the board i take Curry. Teague just doenst interest me.

rev, I don't understand how you can even consider Thabeet with your love for our Euro. At some point, the non-post possitions need to be addressed. Even if you like the PGs in the Miami pick range, then we should be talking about Aminu or Clark... but I like how DX has it currently, PG with the lotto pick and wing with the Miami pick.

Fair enough. I'm just putting it out there for discussion.

It's also worth noting, that they both lit up UNC- McClinton for 35/Teague for 34, and that head to head, McClinton outplayed Teague scoring 32 (11-19) to Teague's 19 (6-14) in a big Miami win.

That said, I think McClinton has a role in the NBA as an Eddie House type. Teague, reminds me more of Mo Williams, a player who in the right system (not ours) could succeed.

The non-Harden guards are all just fuzzy to me right now, I'm not seeing much to say unequivocally one is better than another. For me right now, it's

Rubio

gap

Harden

big gap

Teague, Holiday, probably Jennings, Edit: Evans too, idk how I missed him

small gap

Curry, Collison, Lawson, Flynn, probably Maynor

That's pretty close to how I have it:

Tier 1: Rubio (picks 1-2)
Tier 2: Harden (picks 3-4)
Tier 3: Jennings/Holiday (picks 5-8)
Tier 4: Teague/Curry/Lawson (picks 9-15)
Tier 5: Maynor/Flynn/Collison/Mills (picks 16-30)

Tyreke "chopped liver" Evans has something to say about your rankings.
