There's zero explanation for it. Montreal (organizationally) never like Subban. The story behind the scenes is his flamboyance and attitude and character were all concerns yet they went and signed Radulov two days later.

I could be wrong but I don't think they ever got behind a black player that was a star on the ice and one who connected so well with fans off it. I think race was a factor. Fans in Montreal loved him, he made a 10 million dollar contribution to a Montreal hospital and yet the Habs voted Pacioretti as their nominee for the community award.

Subban learned french well and did everything right. I think it was jealousy on the team between the players that didn't like him getting all the attention. He was one of the hardest workers on the team.

Add to that they traded for a guy 4 years older with a contract 4 years longer. I hope the Habs completely choke on this trade and Price asks to be traded.

I really dig the new/old Leafs logo. I may have to update my Leafs t-shirt in the near future! (I know, it's weird that I like both the Sabres and Leafs).

I'll repeat my question: Have we signed Matthews to a contract as of yet? If not, why not?

How does insurance work if he gets injured during camp, if he is not under contract?

Nope, he's not signed. The best guess as to why not is Lou's hesitancy to include performance bonuses in entry level deals.

Well on the bright side it's a done deal. What you guys think?

Who knows why it took this long. But it's not unprecedented either. Both Lou and Matthews' agent said the deal was done within minutes, so who knows what happened. Maybe his agent was on vacation or something.

Lou's methods are too old school for the new NHL. Adapt or give it all to Kyle Dubas.
