I know it's counter intuitive to think positive as a Leafs fan, but 3 more hours until the city of Toronto makes BBC world news

McDavid is coming home

WOW! Anyone but the Oilers!

What a terrible day for Toronto

4. Toronto 68 points
3. Edmonton 62 points

We were so close damn it!

After the 3 balls (5-14-6) Toronto had the best odds at 36.4%, Buffalo 27.3%, Edmonton 18.2%, CBJ and Carolina at 9.1%

Saw that on twitter.

Cursed.

Agreed, I would have preferred anyone but the Oilers.

SMH. Oilers winning was the best result possible, besides us obviously. We were slightly more likely to pick 5th before the lottery, now we're locked in at 4. We'll have a choice between two of Strome, Hanifan and Marner. Plus, McDavid goes out West where we only have to play him twice a year and can't see him in the playoffs before the Finals.

Also, I'd prefer other Canadians and actual hockey fans get to enjoy him rather than him going to Arizona. Thus, Edmonton was my preferred non-Toronto destination, even though it is silly how often they've won recently.

Having said all that...I was crushed. I really let myself believe it might happen when it got down to our envelope. Ugh.

I never let myself believe, so it was easier to take. I'm excited to see who Hunter selects at 4. Edmonton will appreciate McDavid, but I'd bet Buffalo would have appreciated him more. I felt like Edmonton would be the most likely to pick swap, but now there will be no chance.

Now that the McDavid dream is over. I really want the Leafs to get Strome.

Strome or Hanifin and I'll be happy.

Looking at next years draft, theres a kid named Austin Matthews. Seems like he'll be one helluva of a player. He missed this years draft by a couple days, and might have went before Eichel if he was in this draft.

Then theres some rumours that NJ might move their pick (6th overall) for scoring help. Would love to get that pick in a Kessel deal.

Watch out for this kid. We need to do this Swede by leveraging the second first in a package. Saw him as a 16 year old against solid pros. Serious prospect.

"Pittsburgh Penguins co-director of amateur scouting Randy Sexton said Oliver Kylington's skill set is well-suited for the NHL game today, where teams want to get the puck moving quickly out of their zone.

He said those skills, including his skating ability and good vision to help evaluate options, could put Kylington in the top half of the first round.

"He's such a good skater," Sexton said. "Everybody wants those types of [defensemen] now. Nobody wants to spend time in their zone and a guy like that has got the sense to move the puck and the ability to skate it out."

Sexton said Kylington's skating reminds him a bit of Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson."

I hope they just go with the BPA (even if Cherry continues to rant about the Leafs not drafting Ontario boys)

If Hunter picks Hanifan over his boy Marner, you know that the Leafs have landed a stud defenseman.

Oakley, I think it's possible Kylington is still on the board for the Nashville pick. Seems to be a wide range of opinions on him in mock drafts, I've seen him going anywhere from 14-28. Nashville pick could be as high as 21. His stock has dropped since the start of the year due to some inconsistent play, but I agree he has big upside.

I'm really torn on the Strome/Hanifin/Marner debate. On the one hand, I admit I'd be more excited about getting Strome or Marner. Forwards are just generally more exciting and develop faster. But Hanifin seems more highly regarded than Ekblad was last year and look how good he was in Florida. I also think Hanifin's production is underrated. He's a 17-year old playing against a lot of 20 year olds in the NCAA. His stats are comparable to other top NCAA performers like Trouba, but he's a year younger than most of their freshman years.

Guy has no weaknesses. People have dropped Neidermeyer comparisons for how well-rounded he is. Putting him with Rielly would lock down our top pairing for the next decade. It's not like we have a ton of talent on defense in the farm right now. He was the 3rd best consensus prospect for a long time for a reason.

Having said that...my rankings haven't changed for the last few months. I'm a Marner guy.

1. Marner
2. Hanifin
3. Strome

There's so little separating them though. Like, I wouldn't be upset with Strome and all have true star potential. I just think Strome has the highest chance of busting among the group.

Well If they may have the opportunity to add Hanifan major bonus. The overhauled D looks like: Rielly, Gardiner, Polak, Erixon, Brennan and old vet with a juicy contract Robidas. Consider Marlies Percy, Valiev, and Loov with legit shots to crack the rebuilding team and bump some people like Robidas. Matt Finn is likely to be in the minors a long time. As I said they should try very hard and get Kylington in the second half of the first round. I'd also offer sheet Paul Postma as Winnipeg has been healthy scratching him. Stock the D. Sign a roaming FA centre like Soderberg, Go with Kadri, Soderberg, Holland, Komarov down the middle. Deal Reimer and Bernier outright and sign Jake Allen as RFA and make Gibson the b/up.

The only reason Hanifin was considered the consensus #3 pick was cause of the Oilers. I could easily see Arizona drafting Marner or Strome over Hanifin. Its really close between those guys.

I dont care who we draft, because we need everything.

Oh and Dallas Eakins to me is a no brainer to develop these guys.

I'd take Babcock, of course. But I dont think he wants to go through a rebuild.

But the Wings AHL coach is someone who I would target if the Wings were to bring back Babcock.

McLellan also left the Sharks, would not be opposed to him or Eakins.

I expect it to be outside the box which may or likely not include Eakins. McLellan on a rebuilding team is curious.

Would not surprise me if McLellan was our next coach. San Jose was a possession juggernaut for years under his watch, which appeals to the analytics guys. Plus, Shanahan loves him. McLellan coached the power play in Detroit where Shanahan had a lot of success.

Apparently Shanahan has never gotten along with Babcock. Don't think either party really wants to work together.
