Capitals sign 2006 Draft Pick Backstrom

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Mon May 21, 2007 10:48 pm

Nicklas Backstrom's new No. 19 Washington Capitals jersey was hanging in the locker room at the team's practice facility Monday after he signed his three-year, entry level contract.

Above the jersey was a nameplate, reading "N. BACKSTROM" and decorated with club and NHL logos. All of the other lockers were empty: no jerseys, no nameplates. Expect more to come, though.

The 19-year-old center, the fourth overall pick in the 2006 draft, represents the first major addition of what the team promises will be a busy offseason.

I will say this, the Capitals can contend for a playoff spot next season if they bring in more talent. They need to build around Semin, Ovechkin and Backstrom and go from there.

Caps have stockpiled alot of young talent. They could be good in a few years if half of the talent pans out.
