They've been around for awhile, but as someone who still really digs listening to full albums, their last one a couple years back was a highlight of that year for me.

Was going to give it a listen yesterday when I stumbled on the 14 minute Ginuwine cover and had to stop what I was otherwise doing heh.

Check out 77 year old Peter Wolf dancing around in black leather, looking cool sounding great and kicking ass at the TD Garden in Boston, where he's from and where he was (is?) a rock dj. He's got a great backup band made of Duke Levine on guitar, Mike Mills of R.E.M. on bass, Kenny Wayne Shepherd on guitar, the GREAT Kenny Aaronoff on the drumkit and Tom Buchovac on guitar!

That is an extremely solid band!

And Kenny. Man, those first four or five Mellencamp albums got a lot of play from me growing up because of Kenny's drumming. Whenever I see his signature bald head and shades behind the kit, instant watch. That aggressive, in the pocket style can be polarizing, and I get it, it's not appropriate for everything, but man, when you want to keep a song driving when a lot of other stuff is going on, especially live, it just works.

Ugh. Trying to refrain from going on a mini rant about how this thinking impacts my relationship with one of my favorite NYC bands...

This will be a little off topic, but since I have drummers on my mind, you owe it to yourself to check out yussef dayes if you haven't come across him before.

This is outstanding. I may be in NYC in November and he's playing in Brooklyn. Hmmm. Might try to make that.

Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Shaun Lopez (Far)'s electronic rock/dream pop side project dropped yesterday. The whole album is fire.

I re-stumbled on to Falling In Reverse after not really giving them too much thought over the last few years. This song and video completely blew me away. The blending of genres, production and misdirection is top notch. Give it a full watch through. Trust me.

Playing out of tune on purpose? I can do that without trying.

That squirrelly Kenny Vaughan spilling the beans again.

I read a story on George Harrison and a person who knew was trying to describe the contradictions in his personality. For example, he was the first Beatle to practice Buddhism and to get into all stuff yet he would still snort a line now and then (or more) and could be sharp-tongued to some. Then he told a story about how the Beatles were on a flight somewhere and George was meditating in his airplane seat when the stewardess walked up to him and asked him if he'd like something to drink. George stopped, turned to her and said, "Fck off! Can't you see I'm meditating?"

These old farts all got together for a Veterans Aid rock concert in San Diego, CA in November. They're going out on their swords and for the most part sound great, especially Jeff Lyne (ELO).
