I don't really care about a trade up or not. Just get the pick right. If its a QB, and they get that pick right. No one will care about the trade up.

Don't think anyone goes back and say damn I wish we didn't trade with chargers to get Eli?

I do think it’s a little bit different to trade up for the “top rated QB” in the draft vs the guy that’s stock has dramatically rose after the season ended. I’m sure Eli’s numbers/tape were more impressive and having that pedigree helped too. That’s where a lot of my apprehension is coming from. Maybe it works out but it be better if it works out and we get to keep the extra picks.

unfortunately with this being a top heavy QB class and a lot of teams near the top of the draft needing QB's...I don't think you will be able to sit comfortably and pick a QB. That is just the nature of the beast.

it’s very little to do with that and more to do with resetting the cap and giving the new regime their own qb

if the qb is good, you now have a cheap contact and can now afford an elite player like ayuik.

jones can be very good if he had ayuik, but you can’t afford both and jones is an injury liability

yea the biggest part of anything like this is resetting the QB clock in terms of the salary cap. You now can load up in other areas for the next few years before you have to pay your QB like 20-25% of the salary cap.

lowkey, they're kinda similar from a size/athleticism except drake maye has a cannon arm when daniel jones doesn't, and i guess he's younger so more moldable.

think like upgrading from porzingis to chet

depends on what you giving up though. picks in the nfl are way more valuable than the nba and moving up from 6 to 3 is really expensive

not with how many QB hungry teams are in the the top of the draft

at this point the first 4 picks could be QB's

I really don't want to pass up one of these WRs just to reset the clock and we end up taking a lesser talented QB just to fill a need. But I trust Schoen and Daboll so I gotta see what they do, if they think McCarthy or Maye are the guys, so be it. I just feel like if we're picking QB top 6 it has to be day 1 starter.

But considering the importance of the position it’s worth the gamble if we stay at #6. McCarthy and/or Maye would be fine at that spot.

I’m not trading up and giving up this years second and next years first though to get the fourth QB in this draft class. I’d be fine sticking at 6 and taking Nabers or Odunze if four QBs are taking in the top five.

Shouldn't that be this year's first and next year's second?

They trade #6 for #4 and to do that, they give up 2025 2nd rounder, or something similar, maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder too. Too much more than that, it gets too expensive. If the Giants give up next year's #1 - which has a shot at being top 4 overall, and #6 for this year's 4 - that would be dumb.

I don't feel strongly against trading up. I think it would be weird for Danial Jones to be playing, knowing it's his final year with the GIants, but he wouldn't be the first QB to do that. He'll also be playing for a contract as a free agent, so he'll have some motivation.

Daniel Jones is Frank with a 3 year max extension

Not sure what Maye could be

Except Maye is an unknown. That's the risk.

And comparisons are hard, so respect. I think that's a solid comp, but in that comp, Daniel Jones is Porzingas? No. Just no. I'm trying to think of a good comp but I can't think of one. Maybe RJ Barrett is closer. Had moments, but ultimately disappointed as a Knick. He looked better as a Raptor.

and RJ might be too good for a comp. (Daniel Jones isn't Frank Nikita - come on now). He had one good season and won a playoff game and often looked OK, if unimpressive and he rarely had a good team around him. Closer to a kind of average player, the problem is, it's hard to win with joe average at QB.
