Is there a scenario under this new cba that allows for Deng to sign with the knicks this offseason for4yrs 15mil per?

Cavs can't sign and trade him to us-

We can't sign him outright-

but if Deng decides he wants knicks, can the cavs still trade him to us in the upcoming offseason the sameway they could of b4 this past trade deadline?

The Knicks, with essentially the same team won 54 games so they don't necessarically make major changes to remain competive. What the. Need is a real leader on the bench and more trye leaders on the court each game.

OK, so what is the deal with a Luxury tax paying team unable to receive a player back in a S&T? If Melo opts out and wants to goto LAC, do we then fall into a non tax team and can receive a player, or since we would have to sign him then trade him would we go into the Luxury tax meaning we could only get picks for him?

we're still over the top without Melo so no sign and trade and no trade exception. Same thing happened to Lakers with Dwight.

Does anyone know how draft night trades work? Do they count only for the next year or current year? Wondering if it won't be too late to trade Chandler for a pick.

can we offer chandler-bargs-stat to opt out and we'll tell them to give 3 year contract like o.asik-j.lin gets.
and they'll leave 2014 huge cap space to 2016. and with this way we may sign one free agent.
next years would awful for salary but maybe we can get lebron or sth.

Jesus christ how many times will Shump foul for no reason? You are not a good defender if you can't play D without averaging a foul every 5 mins

When is Shump eligible for an extension? We should try and lock him into something like $12m/3 years now, rather than risk him taking around $6m of cap space to re-sign next summer.

Not sure I understand the question. Does what count?

Is is not too late to trade Chandler for a 2014 draft pick if that's what you're asking. A team can trade the Knicks their 2014 pick (assuming they have a 2015 one) before or during the draft. if they don't, they can use their pick to select the player of the Knicks choice and trade that player to the Knicks for Chandler.

Chandler doesn't have a player option.

And I'm relatively certain the Lin/Asik contracts with huge increases in the 3rd year can only be given to restricted free agents.

From the day following the July moratorium to the October 31 preceding the player's last option season

In other words, second week of July until Halloween of this year.

Can team optioned players for next season be traded before July 1st and subsequently not have their options picked up by the acquiring team making the players free agents?

So, ETOs. How do those work? Like could we essentially offer Melo a five year contract, (amount = less than max) and give him ETOs starting from the second year, so he can opt out, and then sign for the max once we have our roster set?

If not, how and when can we apply it?

How do minimum roster cap holds work when you're trying to work within the apron?

For example, let's say you've used the full MLE and the apron is $81m. You have $75m in salary and need to fill five roster spots. Is it possible to sign one guy for $4m with the remaining $2m going to four cap holds at $500k each, and then sign a vet. min player at $1m+ for each of the remaining spots (thus exceeding $81m when all is said and done)? Or since it's a hard-cap, is your final payroll limited to $81m?

No. An Early Termination Option (ETO) can only be included in five-year contracts at the end of the fourth season. If you want to give Melo an opportunity to opt out in 2015 then he needs to sign a 1 + 1 (one season + an option year) or just a one-year deal.

It's an early termination option, meaning you can terminate the contract one year before the original term. It's not an option allowing players and teams to structure contracts as they wish. There's a CBA for a reason.

People often make that mistake but it's easy to understand :
- player option or team option : option allowing the player (or the team) to extend the contract one more season
- ETO : option allowing the player to terminate the contract one year before its original term.

In the previous CBA, it was two years before the original term because there were 6-year contracts (with Bird rights) so max players used to sign a 6-year contract with an ETO at the end of the fourth season and a player option option at the end of the fifth season. That's exactly what Lebron, Wade and Bosh did in july 2010. Now it's no longer possible under the 2011 CBA.

If you used the full MLE (non taxpayer's MLE) or the BAE (Bi-Annual Exception) or received a player in a sign and trade, you're hard capped at the apron. Under no circumstance you can't exceed the apron for the remainder of the season in each of those cases. Basically, if you're under the apron after using the full MLE, the BAE or received a player in a sign and trade, you made a commitment not to exceed the apron. In that scenario, if you're close to the apron and are capped out because you used the full MLE and still want flexibility then you need to dump contracts for nothing (package a player to a team under the cap for an exception and then renounce that exception or waive partially guaranteed/unguaranteed contracts, dump salaries in a trade, etc.) to have some wiggle room and sign minimum salary players.

In relation to the apron, cap holds for incomplete rosters (less than 12 players under contract) are included in order to make sure the team has enough money to have at least 12 players under contract when the season commences.

So what's the State of the Union for the Knicks right now? Everything I'm looking at is pre draft.

What's our cap hold looking like right now?

Which contracts are unguaranteed and for how much?

Exceptions? Phil said in the presser we have the taxpayer MLE, Whats that set at this year?
