Best outing yet. Gave us length this time against a great team with its ace on the mound. Only 1 walk too.

Haha Google AI says:

The Polo Grounds in New York City had the following field dimensions in 1923:

Left field: 279 ft

Left-center: 450 ft

Center field: 483 ft

Right-center: 449 ft

Right field: 258 ft

Backstop: 65 ft

For comparison, here is modern Yankee Stadium:

Left field: 318 ft (97 m)

Left center: 399 ft (122 m)

Center field: 408 ft (124 m)

Right center: 385 ft (117 m)

Right field: 314 ft (96 m)

Backstop: 52 ft 4 in (15.95 m)

Who the hell was blasting HR shots to center in the 1920s  that's absurd

The Orioles just showed the Yankees that they are not ready to be on the same field with the big boys.

The Yanks would have been better signing Verlander than Rodon. That's the 3rd time is it that they should have gone the Verlander route instead of the route they went? But hey, Yankees rather go with whomever as long as it keeps the AAV down. Rodon is basically a continuation of Sonny Gray and Frankie Montas smh. Sweat pouring, deer-in-the-headlights showing...

Has Gray or Montas actually pitched well at all for us? Rodon was riding high for the most part the last two starts.

While I would blame Rodon for not evening this series, I would blame hitting for losing this series. It's just not been good for the most part outside those two 15-run games against the Brewers. Hell, Yankees this series could've gotten swept had it not been for one Cabrera swing.

I think it is fair to take out the measuring stick at this point. Even with the acquisition of Juan Soto I think most of us thought this team still wasn’t good enough but to see it play out like this really takes the wind out of the sails from what we were seeing early on. 20% of the season is now in the books and they just lost three out of four to the division favorite. Not a good sign of the way this team is structured right now.

A lot of the offensive problems can be fairly directed at Aaron Judge. For the last few years he has been the entire offense as far as I’m concerned. He needs to get back to being what he has been if this team is going to have a realistic chance of winning a pennant this year. of course the entire blame is not at his feet. He just has the biggest impact if he is just himself which he is not currently. Gleyber Torres’ performance is garbage. Anthony Volpe is not ready to be the catalyst of the offense. What we are getting from Giancarlo Stanton is the most we’re going to get.

The situational hitting remains atrocious overall. Traffic on the bases is meaningless unless you bring them home and they are not doing that by any measure of success. It is frustrating to watch and all any of us can do is hope for change to the better however that comes about

Rodon getting his ass blasted is going to happen especially against a good club, but our offense is complete dog sh*t and that's a way bigger problem than pitching right now.

I don't know if it was the same polo ground stadium (there were more than one), but imagine playing CF in a stadium like that. That's the field Willie Mays had to try to cover.

And the "shot heard around the world" - Bobby Thompson's homer to win the pennant. I heard that was a 300 footer. Maybe 320. It would have been a fly ball out in most parks, maybe every other park but that one.

My father went to the pologrounds a few times. He said it shouldn't have been a ballpark.
Uh oh. Somebody needs to call Rick Carlisle a whaaambulance.

Yankees really need to reset from the top starting Cashman.
We do have some great pieces.. Judge, Soto, Cole, Holmes.
I can't remember Yankees being this irrelevant in NY sports.
Just fire Cashman Hal, that's the start.

Your father was right. I looked at pictures of the Polo Grounds (the 4th version) and the outfield looked like a nightmare to cover
