Mauricio hit an absolute moonshot. Then Parada ends the game with a cannon armed caught stealing.

Ronny Mauricio hit another bomb today. That’s 3 HRs in 7 at bats. Looks like the power is real.

I’m having second thoughts about just trading him due to being blocked at SS by Lindor. The kid is huge physically and likely to outgrow SS long term anyway. Why not consider him at 3B and move Baty to LF since he’s the better defender.

I’m all for keeping all the kids (Alvarez, Baty, Mauricio, Vientos) and continuing our internal growth and development. Low cost talent like them can position us to move on from more expensive aging vets like Escobar, Canha, Ruf, etc.

If we can get production out of these kids it’ll free up more budget for another free agent acquisition to put us over the top (Ohtani).

the question with him has always been plate discipline...he doesn't walk and chases a lot of bad pitches...in spring training that really isn't an issue because guys don't pitch to scouting reports but in the show that could be an issue if teams just never give him anything good to hit.

His raw power is really good but I think he's an interesting sell high on piece. Because raw potential is there but I have seen a lot of guys that have no plate discipline fizzle out.

Let’s take the wait and see approach and evaluate if his plate discipline is turning the corner. He’s still very young. Not ready to say he can’t improve there yet.

of course I'm not just giving him away but if we want to make a big trade ideally you are trying to keep Alvarez and Baty out of the deal...if Mauricio has to headline its still something you consider depending on the return. Guys that generally have .300 OBP or sub that number in the minors usually dont' magically get better but no denying the kids bat when he does get the bat on the ball and swings at a good pitch.

Mauricio hit another bomb out of Clover Park altogether. Kid has awesome power.

Bad news is Marte got beaned in the head and left the game.

I think his future is at 3B. He showed off a cannon arm today. He is a better fit for 3rd than Baty. I’d convert Baty to LF.

But where does he play? LF?

Ronny could play 2nd base and Jeff McNeil could be a super-sub/OF/DH, assuming Baty holds down 3rd. Ronny probably spends at least a few months, maybe all year in AAA. Whatever he's shown lately, he still had a .296 OBP in AA last year. The Mets are going to take their time with him.

and if Ronny can play CF, even better, but not everyone can make the transition to OF. The Mets need depth with Marte's age and currently not playing while he comes back from an injury and Nimmo & McNeil's tendency to miss games. 8 or 9 players to fill the 7 infield spots makes sense.

Mets are looking good. Baty & Alvarez should be fun, even if Alvarez opens in AAA. I like the Omar Narvaez upgrade at catcher a lot. The Bullpen is deeper and the starting pitching is old, but crazy good upside. Lots to like about how the season is shaping up.

Let him take over 3B eventually from Escobar. Convert Baty to LF. Baty is not good anyway defensively. Mauricio has a rocket for an arm that would really work well at 3rd.
